Job Summary:
The Health Care Assistant (HCA) supports the clinical team by providing a range of delegated clinical and administrative tasks. Working under the supervision of a registered nurse or GP, the HCA plays a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
Phlebotomy (venepuncture)
Measuring and recording vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation)
New patient health checks and NHS health checks
ECG recording
Height, weight, BMI, and waist circumference measurements
Urinalysis
Wound care and dressings (if trained)
Spirometry (if trained)
Administering influenza, B12 and other injections under a PGD or PSD (if trained)
Blood glucose and HbA1c monitoring
Smoking status assessment and brief cessation advice
Chaperoning clinicians during intimate examinations
Supporting chronic disease reviews, including data collection and template completion
Administrative Duties
Accurate clinical record-keeping using EMIS
Read coding of clinical information
Assisting with audits and data collection
Stock control and equipment maintenance
Ensuring clinical areas are clean and fully stocked
Supporting recall systems and patient follow-up
