1. To provide the highest level of personal care (e.g. toileting, bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, eye care etc) and attention to residents, following individual care plans carefully and ensuring that all contact is polite, friendly, warm and supportive.
2. To act as a key worker for a named group of residents, ensuring that these responsibilities are carried out in full. Refer to individual care plans.
3. To understand and comply with requirements such as Infection Control, Fire Safety, Health & Safety, COSHH, SOVA, all aspects of the Health & Social Care Act, to maintain a safe environment throughout the home.
4. To always be alert to residents' physical and mental well being, immediately reporting any changes in a resident's condition to the senior person on duty, and to accurately maintain and update residents' records as required.
5. To respect and maintain confidentiality of resident's personal information at all times, this includes resident's behaviour and actions and any incidents that may occur in the course of day to day care.
6. Be understanding and patient towards residents and their needs, and encourage, assist and support residents to participate in leisure activities as appropriate to the individual, ensuring their social and emotional needs are met.
7. Making and changing beds, tidying resident's rooms (with the resident's permission) undertaking light cleaning duties as needed and generally assisting in ensuring that the Home is kept clean, pleasant and welcoming at all times.
8. Helping to serve meals and drinks at meal times and other times when required, taking care to present meals and refreshments in an attractive way, with polite and courteous service. Also, to provide the appropriate level of support and help for residents who need assistance with feeding, whist promoting independence in others.
9. To assist residents who require support when mobilising, ensuring the environment is safe and correct moving and handling procedures are followed.
10. To receive and act upon instructions from Senior Care Staff regarding specific tasks to be carried out.
11. To answer nurse alarm calls promptly and appropriately.
12. To attend mandatory and other training sessions as required.
13. Answer the door and telephone in a professional and courteous manner, documenting information given and passing messages on promptly.
14. Make all visitors feel welcome and offer refreshments on arrival.
15. Some escorting duties may be required e.g. to hospital appointments or social engagements.
16. To attend and participate in staff meetings.
17. Participate in resident activities and help residents maintain any hobbies/interests they may have.
