The Nautilus Welfare Fund is a UK-registered charity administered by Nautilus International, offering a range of specialist services to support retired seafarers and their dependants. Mariners' Park is based in, Wallasey on the Wirral Peninsular overlooking the River Mersey comprising a Care Home, Independent Living and Additional Support.
Job Purpose HCA Level 0-2
Work as part of a team to deliver a high quality, personalised care and support service to residents at the Mariners Park Care Home, helping people maintain their independence, health and wellbeing. Encourage and promote healthy living, social and community activities for residents. Participate and support the provision of meaningful activities for residents living in the care home.
Key Accountabilities:
? Deliver personalised care as described in the care plan, which may be in the form of
bathing, washing, dressing, moving and handling, skin care, shaving, medication
prompts
? Ensure meal times are a pleasurable experience supporting and assisting residents as required
? To help residents that may have an agreed personal risk assessment, to stay safe but to be equally respectful of the resident's choice, control and right to take informed risks. Identifying any concerns and giving assistance where appropriate
? To monitor the health and wellbeing of residents, respond or report any changes as appropriate
? To record and report relevant information, relaying any concerns regarding the care of the residents to the nurse in charge
? To promote activities and spend quiet periods of the shifts facilitating resident activity whenever possible
? Respond to residents alarm calls ensuring appropriate action is taken in a timely
fashion
? To support residents to make comments or complaints about service or external services
? It is essential that at all times, you will take care of and consider the appearance of the care home to ensure it meets the standards that Nautilus sets
? Perform other duties as may from time to time be reasonably required

? Holistic and person centred approach to supporting older people
? An empathetic approach to the needs of older people

? Ability to carry out moving and handling of residents
? Some understanding of Care Quality Commission CQC and service delivery under

? Some knowledge of the current health and social care agenda as it affects older
people and the delivery of services
? Experience of care and support planning and review
? Hold full driving licence with use of a car
? Good general IT skills in Microsoft Office and Windows

You have a responsibility for ensuring that you are aware of the health & safety policies and procedures for NWF and that you take responsibility for your own health and safety whilst at work. Should you have any queries or questions you must raise these with your manager.
Mobile Phones are forbidden on the floor when caring for residents but can be used when on allocated breaks.
As we work with vulnerable adults, and come into contact with children, it is critical that you are able to recognise and respond to signs of or actual abuse and be aware of your responsibilities in relation to safeguarding. Training will be provided to support you in this area.

You have a joint responsibility with NWF to work with your line manager to ensure that you are adequately skilled to perform your job and participate in the annual learning and development programme.
It is essential that you are aware of the policies and procedures which support the work of NWF and Nautilus International as they apply to you, and you are expected to contribute to their ongoing review. If there are any policies and procedures you do not understand, you must notify your line manager immediately.
Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships and communication with residents, team members, visitors and other external professionals and agencies to support the delivery and development of quality services that meet the needs of our residents.
