HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT (HCA) - 3 DAYS PER WEEK

Strand Medical Group is a large, forward-thinking GP practice located next to Durrington-on-Sea train station, caring for a growing population of over 15,700 patients. We are an innovative, digitally progressive practice using SystmOne and AI supported clinical software to deliver safe, efficient patient care.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our clinical team for 3 days per week. The ideal candidate will be confident in phlebotomy, health checks, and general treatment?room tasks, with a commitment to high standards of patient care.

4 GP Partners
5 Salaried GPs
2 Paramedic Practitioners
4 Advanced Nurse Practitioners
8 Practice Nurses

Administrative and managerial teams
ROLE SUMMARY
This role includes the standard phlebotomy scope along with delivery of NHS Health Checks and a range of treatment?room duties. You will work under the supervision of the nursing and ANP teams and contribute to safe, effective patient care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform venepuncture on adults and children in line with training and protocols
Deliver NHS Health Checks, including:
- Blood pressure measurement
- Pulse and rhythm checks
- Height, weight, BMI, waist circumference
- Point-of-care cholesterol testing (if applicable)
- Lifestyle advice and documentation on SystmOne
Undertake general treatment?room tasks, including:
- Dressings and wound care (within competency)
- Foot checks (e.g., diabetic foot screening)
- Spirometry (training can be provided)
- Ear syringing/aural care (as per practice protocol)
- ECG recording
- Peak flow measurements
- Urinalysis
Prepare and label samples accurately and manage specimen handling
Maintain infection control and room cleanliness
Support seasonal vaccination clinics where appropriate
Maintain accurate clinical records using SystmOne
Follow all practice protocols including infection control, PPE, chaperoning, and safeguarding
REQUIREMENTS
Previous primary?care HCA experience is strongly preferred
Proven competency in venepuncture essential
Experience performing NHS Health Checks desirable
Willingness to train in additional clinical duties as required (spirometry, ECGs, ear care)
Excellent communication and patient?care skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
Confident using IT systems (SystmOne experience desirable)
Commitment to confidentiality, safeguarding, and infection?control standards
