Job Summary


Downsfield Medical Centre, a well-established and reputable general practice, is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our team on a temporary locum basis. The role will support with patient care sessions and help maintain our high standards of service. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a key role in assisting with clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of our daily activities and contributing to excellent patient care.

Role Overview


As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work directly with our clinical team to provide essential support. This is a temporary role designed to assist with some of our current sessional needs. The position involves working with patients in a variety of settings and assisting in both clinical and administrative tasks to support the overall functionality of the practice.

You will be an integral part of our team, ensuring patient care is delivered efficiently and compassionately. Your work will help ensure that we maintain the high standards of care our patients expect from us.

Responsibilities


Your main duties will include, but are not limited to:

Patient Monitoring:

Assist with the monitoring of patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and weight.

Patient Examinations:

Take and record medical histories, helping with patient assessments and preparing them for examinations.

Minor Procedures Assistance:

Prepare patients for minor procedures and treatments, ensuring their comfort throughout.

Phlebotomy:

Take and process blood samples from patients (phlebotomy).

Wound Care and Support:

Assist in wound care and dressing changes, as well as supporting patients with mobility needs.

Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate patient records in line with confidentiality guidelines and practice protocols.

Vaccinations:

Administer routine injections and vaccinations under the supervision of clinical staff.

Stock and Supplies Management:

Help with the preparation and stock control of medical supplies and equipment, ensuring resources are readily available.

Chronic Disease Management:

Provide patient support for chronic disease management by giving health information and advice.

Administrative Support:

Assist with administrative duties, including booking patient appointments and addressing patient queries.

Infection Control:

Adhere to infection control standards, ensuring a clean and safe environment is maintained for both patients and staff.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:


We are looking for candidates with the following essential skills and qualifications:

Previous experience in a Healthcare Assistant or similar clinical role is desirable but not essential. A genuine interest in healthcare and a passion for patient support. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, carers, and colleagues. Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy healthcare environment. Strong organizational skills, with great attention to detail. A compassionate and caring approach to patient care, with the ability to work in a team. Ability to follow instructions and work within established practice protocols.

Desirable Skills:



NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification. Phlebotomy training or experience. Previous experience working in a general practice or healthcare setting.
