Health Care Support Worker

Merthyr Tydfil, WLS, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Ward 6 is an acute surgical ward with specialities such as colorectal and UGI. With these specialities we have a close relationship with ITU, endoscopy, ED and theatres. These formed relationships have improved patient care and a patient's surgical journey during their admission on ward 6. Alongside gaining new found surgical experience, you will have an incredible opportunity to work within the surgical assessment unit and SSDEC, this is offered as a rotation on ward 6 to enhance distinctive assessment skills and experience.

As well as the general surgical ward, the surgical admissions unit and surgical SDEC is also run on ward 6. This takes referrals from ED or GP for a surgical assessment and a plan of care. This facility has decreased the wait time for patients, which is vital for the patients physical and well-being.

Our ideal candidate would be someone who will dedicate their time to patient care and their team, have the thirst for improvement and the drive to succeed. Surgical experience is desirable but not as essential due to the extensive support and guidance from the surgical nursing team.

The range of assigned tasks will be carried out with the highest standard to support and enable qualified staff to provide patient care, which reflects the quality of standards and mission of the University Health Board. These will include providing basic nursing care to patients under the supervision of qualified staff.

Welsh Skills Desirable:

This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
