Job Description

We are seeking highly motivated health care support workers to rise to the challenge of working on Ward 8, acute surgical division, at Prince Charles Hospital. Ward 8 is currently operating as a Trauma and Orthopaedic ward, the ward also works closely with the Major Trauma Centre in UHW.



You will work alongside the Ward Manger, the Deputy Ward Manager and Registered Nurses on this busy, challenging ward. You will be responsible for supporting the registered staff in delivering high quality nursing care for all patients requiring care intervention.



Welsh Skills Desirable:

This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency ', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. The range of assigned tasks will be carried out with the highest standard to support and enable qualified staff to provide patient care, which reflects the quality of standards and mission of the University Health Board. These will include providing basic nursing care to patients under the supervision of qualified staff



Duties will include:



1. providing nursing care to patients and assisting with their activities of daily living.

2. undertake baseline observations and report any abnormalities to the qualified staff member.

3. communicate effectively with patients, relatives and staff

4. maintain stock levels.

5. uphold strict infection control policies and procedures.

6. maintain accurate and up to date written communications.

7. maintain training and educational needs



To be successful you will possess:



Excellent communication and interpersonal skills To be Self Motivated, organised and flexible in your approach The ability to work on your own using your initiative, whilst demonstrating good team working skills and behaviours in order to be part of an already established team

You will be supported during your orientation and development. Ongoing support will be provided through team meetings and development days. You will have access to further study and opportunities to expand your role in line with service development.
