The Support Worker plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and assistance to individuals in various settings, including nursing homes, care homes, and assisted living facilities. This position is essential for ensuring the well-being and comfort of clients, particularly those with specific needs such as Alzheimer's and dementia care. Support Workers are responsible for delivering high-quality patient care while fostering a supportive environment that promotes independence and dignity.
Duties
Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration.
Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the quality of life for clients.
Implement care plans tailored to individual needs, ensuring adherence to prescribed routines.
Monitor and document changes in client behaviour or health status, reporting any concerns to appropriate healthcare professionals.
Engage in behaviour management strategies to assist clients with challenging behaviours.
Support clients with mobility issues, including heavy lifting when necessary, while ensuring safety protocols are followed.
Facilitate social interaction and participation in activities that promote mental stimulation and physical well-being.
Drive clients to appointments or social engagements as required.
Skills
Proficiency in first aid and basic life support techniques.
Experience in nursing homes or care home settings is highly desirable.
Knowledge of Alzheimer's and dementia care practices.
Familiarity with senior care principles and patient care methodologies.
Understanding of medication administration protocols and medical terminology.
Experience in home care or hospice care environments is beneficial.
Strong caregiving skills with the ability to manage case plans effectively.
Competence in meal preparation tailored to client dietary needs.
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when assisting clients with mobility challenges.
