The Position
We are looking for an experienced Safety, Arboriculture or Forestry professional, interested in the promotion of excellence in safety and wellbeing throughout our operations. The successful candidate will take a key role in embedding a strong safety culture across a diverse range of work streams and providing advice to internal and external stakeholders on all safety matters.
This role will cover North England, the Midlands, and Wales, and applicants can be based out of any of our company offices within this area, for example Carlisle or Chirk. Due to the size of the region, a significant amount of travel will be required.
Applications are invited from Forestry and Arboriculture professionals with a keen interest in Safety, as well as Safety professionals keen to work in a dynamic business at the heart of a sustainable sector.
Key Responsibilities
The role involves the following key responsibilities, but it is not limited to:
- Promotion and implementation of Group Health, Safety, Environment and Quality policies and procedures with a particular focus on raising safety across the industry
- Provision of Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental advice to internal and external stakeholders
- Inspections and audits of worksites and offices
- Audits of subcontractors
- Attendance at Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) committee monthly meetings
- Creation and review of risk assessments
- Conduct toolbox talks and workshops for staff and subcontractors
- Investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses to determine root causes
- Review operational plans including Construction Phase Plan (CPP), Method Statements, Environmental Management Plans, Waste Management Plans.
- Coordinate occupational health surveillance
- Ensure compliance with company management systems
- Support new business development and provision of Compliance information for tenders and work planning
- Collation of safety and environmental statistics
- Liaison with clients and regulators
- Representation on forestry related groups and committees
- Assist with preparation and presentation for external audits
Training and support will be provided to introduce the successful applicant to Company systems and procedures.
Qualification & Experience Essential
Safety Professional Entry
- NEBOSH or NVQ qualification, at or above certificate level (or equivalent)
- IOSH Technical Member working towards Certified or Chartered
- Proven experience in construction, utilities or infrastructure
- Conducting risk assessment and audit skills
- Working knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
- Keen interest in Forestry and land-based work and willingness to progress with formal training
Forestry/Arboriculture Professional Entry
- Appropriate Forestry, Arboriculture or land-based qualification
- Relevant experience in arboriculture, forest management or timber harvesting
- Member of Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) or Arboriculture Association
- Proven experience managing site-based works and safety arrangements
- Keen interest in safety and willingness to progress with professional qualifications
Qualification & Experience Desirable
- Experience working with plant machinery
- Proven experience with ISO internal or external audits
- Environmental Foundation or Awareness course qualification
- CITB SMSTS certificate or CSCS card
Skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proven business acumen, and a desire to support business development
- Diligent and professional in your approach to work
- Self-motivated to deliver a high-quality service to clients and internal teams
- Organisational, communication, motivational and negotiating skills
- Proficiency with IT systems, with experience of Office 365 suite
- Full UK Drivers Licence and willingness to travel
