Role:
We are seeking a proactive, organised, and highly motivated
Health & Safety and Compliance Officer
to lead and manage all aspects of Health & Safety (H&S) and regulatory compliance within our SME. This role is pivotal in ensuring the company operates in line with current legal, regulatory, and industry-specific standards, with a strong focus on workplace safety, equipment calibration, and broader compliance matters.
As a key team member in a dynamic small business environment, you will also be expected to take on a flexible range of duties supporting the operational and strategic goals of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Health & Safety Management
Develop, implement, and maintain H&S policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
Promote a strong safety culture and provide training and support to all staff.
Compliance Oversight
Ensure company compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards (HSE, ISO, etc.).
Monitor changes in legislation and update internal practices accordingly.
Support external audits and certification processes.
Equipment Calibration & Maintenance Compliance
Oversee the calibration schedule of all relevant equipment and ensure traceability and documentation.
Liaise with external providers to coordinate servicing, calibration, and certification of tools and machinery.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate H&S and compliance records and prepare reports for senior management.
Manage COSHH, RIDDOR, and other statutory requirements.
Team & Business Support
Participate in cross-functional initiatives and contribute to the broader success of the business.
Undertake additional duties as needed within a small business environment, demonstrating flexibility and a hands-on attitude.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent H&S qualification)
Proven experience in a similar H&S and compliance role
Strong understanding of UK H&S legislation and standards
Excellent organisational and documentation skills
Competency in risk assessment and incident investigation
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced SME environment
Desirable:
Experience with ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 systems
Knowledge of calibration standards and procedures
First Aid / Fire Marshal training
Familiarity with industry-specific regulations (where applicable)
