Mitchell & Urwin are seeking a proactive and detail-driven Health & Safety Manager to join our Technical Team based at Ferrybridge. This will require travel around our Yorkshire based sites.
This role is central to ensuring that our operations spanning new build housing, brickwork packages, transport, and manufactured products meet the highest standards of legal, regulatory, and company compliance. As our work underpins the delivery of full client superstructures, you will play a key role in ensuring that every part of the build process is carried out safely and responsibly.
Working collaboratively with Construction Management and Client Site Teams, you will help embed a team-based, solution-focused culture, where safety and compliance are seen as enablers of progress, not barriers, and issues are resolved constructively with a no-blame approach.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out compliance audits across all business areas new build housing, brickwork, transport operations, and manufactured product facilities.
Monitor and audit scaffold and access safety as part of wider compliance checks, ensuring all work at height meets regulations.
Assess compliance and safety performance across logistics and product manufacturing linked to superstructure builds.
Identify hazards, unsafe practices, and opportunities for improvement, providing clear and practical recommendations.
Lead and support incident investigations, adopting a learning-focused, no-blame culture.
Ensure compliance with legislation, company policies, and industry best practice.
Work with site and operational management teams to implement corrective actions and continuous improvements.
Produce accurate and detailed audit reports for senior management review.
Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, knowledge sharing, and visible teamwork.
What You'll Bring:
NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent) essential.
Strong knowledge of health, safety, and compliance legislation across construction, logistics, and manufacturing.
Previous experience in auditing and compliance within construction or related industries.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and encourage a team-first, solution-driven culture.
Competence in producing risk assessments and safe systems of work.
Experience in scaffold safety, transport compliance, or product manufacturing safety is desirable (training can be provided where required).
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Full UK driving licence with flexibility to travel between sites and operational hubs.
