Stopford are recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager to be responsible for managing health and
safety across all areas that Stopford operate from engineering consultancy through to detailed
design and construction, where Stopford acts as the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor.
The Health & Safety Manager will undertake the role of Safety Management Systems (SMS)
Coordinator, responsible for providing expertise in safety issues.

You will be based at our office in Knutsford with the opportunity for hybrid working. There will be
occasional travel required to other offices and client offices/sites. This is a full-time permanent
position.
Key Responsibilities of the Health & Safety Manager include:
o Provide an advisory service supporting clients to understand legislative and regulatory
requirements and provide support, when required, to implement regulatory requirements:-
Construction (Design & Management) (CDM).
Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations 2002 (DSEAR).
Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations (COMAH).
Control of Work.
CDM support, oversee CDM compliance activities as part of the overall assurance approach,
ensuring integration of CDM roles and responsibilities. Provide coaching and support to construction field operations.
Lead in incident investigations identifying root causes and executing sustainable corrective
actions.
Review and provide input on construction work plans with project managers.
Lead rigorous, detailed audits across pre-construction and construction phases, covering site
safety, logistics, design risk management, subcontractor control, and compliance with H&S
legislation.
Update and formulate Leading and Lagging indicators to monitor H&S performance across the
projects and the company. Promote collaborative approaches to hazard identification and risk reduction in both design
and delivery. In conjunction with the Assurance Manager lead competence assessments and assurance
activities to ensure that contractors and designers meet the highest standards for health and
safety capability. Conducts safety training and awareness for employees.

About you
o Educated to a degree level, with NEBOSH Diploma or other relevant health and safety
qualifications.
Experience of working for an Engineering Contractor undertaking design and construction
activities.
Extensive experience of CDM in roles of Designer and Contractor.
In depth knowledge of relevant UK regulations and standards.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Experience in managing stakeholder relationships in a management role.
Line management experience with strong leadership skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects.
Experience working with ISO 45001.
An ability to work collaboratively with all engineering design and construction disciplines.
Working knowledge of Office 365 including One Drive and Sharepoint with proficient use of
Word and Excel.
Eligible to live and work in the UK.
Full UK/EEC driving licence.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate may be required to achieve and maintain security clearance of at least
Security Check level (SC clearance) for this role.

Management Responsibilities
o To liaise positively and proactively with the Consultancy, Projects and Commercial Directors and
all other members of the Senior Leadership Team in the pursuit of client satisfaction, technical
superiority, efficiency and project profitability.
To support with Business Development activities, developing existing and new clients in liaison
with the Commercial and Consultancy Directors. Project proposals are developed, resourced, costed and submitted to the Commercial and
Consultancy Directors for approval as required. Wherever possible, the person who will be
managing the successful implementation of the project is actively involved at this stage. Where projects are multi-disciplinary, realistic man hour projections are obtained before the
projected project costs are finalised. All consultancy and project work is carried out to the highest possible technical standard and in
accordance with the agreed project plan, costs and timescales, so that client needs are satisfied,
repeat and additional business is gained, the reputation of the company is continuously
improved whilst at the same time ensuring that project profitability targets are met. To contribute, wherever possible, to the maximisation of project and overall company
profitability and reputation. Ensures that no project commences until a detailed brief and specific deliverables have been
formally agreed with the client and helps clients to develop these where necessary. Responds positively, objectively and proactively to any requests, concerns and feedback from
the Projects Lead and from individual Project Managers and takes any necessary action to
ensure project success, client satisfaction and project profitability. Acts as Technical Advisor on all safety matters.
Directly liaises with clients, as requested and where necessary to maintain client confidence.
Ensures the team remain technically up to date at all times and is aware of all current and
potential future developments which might affect clients and potential clients.
Encourage all reportees to join and participate in the relevant technical institutions such as the
IChemE and IES.
o Staff are proactively trained and developed so that they progressively gain the necessary
knowledge and skills required not only to improve short term performance but also to prepare
them for future roles which are required by the company and satisfy their long term career
aspirations.
Training records and skills matrices are religiously maintained and used as an input to training
