Job Description

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) are offering sponsorship for qualified Nurses and Midwives to complete the SCPHN qualification at level 7, to become a Health Visitor. The post is fully funded by NHSE, and successful candidates will be paid AFC Band 6 (Annex 21). Candidate are required to be NMC registrants, have a Level 6 qualification at 2:2 or above and be able to commence the programme in September 2025 at Kings College university or at LSBU (London South Bank University) or January 2026 at University of Greenwich.

At LGT, SCPHN's (Health Visitors and School nurses) lead on the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme, provision of Universal Services and Targeted interventions to those children and families with the greatest need.



We are invested in the development of Public Health Nursing, and this is underpinned by our Public Health Nursing strategy and training programme for all roles within the PHN teams.



All Health Visitors and Assistant HV Practitioners have corporate membership with the Institute of Health Visiting (iHv) which offers a wealth of professional training programmes and resources to support excellent practice.



What we are looking for:



The ability to be innovative and adaptive to meet the needs of the children and families on our caseload. Knowledge of the Healthy Child Programme An interest in wider determinants of health to tackle public health needs and the drivers that influence our profession. Excellent communication and listening skills The ability to work autonomously and yet be part of a wider team. Emotional maturity in difficult or distressing situations Leadership qualities and the willingness to take responsibility and make appropriate decisions. A high level of academic skills and the ability to cope with a very intense year with academic deadlines. A reflective learner able to build on previous experience and knowledge.

The post is subject to Occupational Health clearance and an enhanced DBS check.



If you are successfully shortlisted, interviews will take place at Downham Health Centre BR1 5EP - dates to be confirmed. The interview will be in 2 parts; part 1 shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend together as a group to discuss an unseen topic/question. Part 2 will be the individual, panelled interviews where you will be invited to deliver a short 5-minute presentation at the beginning; details for the latter will be provided once candidates are shortlisted.



Candidates are required to hold a full UK driving license and have access to a car.

Current NMC Registration for nursing or midwifery

Evidence of application for NMC registration and confirmed

NMC registration within 2 months of the start date

This is post graduate diploma route so a 2:1 /2:2 Honours Degree is

necessary and also dependent of acceptance at the approved SCPHN HEI

Literacy and Numeracy at the level of the National Qualifications

Framework at level 1-2 for Numeracy (equivalent of GCSE) and 3-4
