About the Role



We are seeking a dedicated

Health & Wellbeing Practitioner

to support colleagues working with Young Offenders, where education and careers support is delivered to young people aged 15-18.


This role strengthens the resilience, confidence and wellbeing of staff operating in a challenging youth justice environment. You will provide immediate and ongoing emotional support, helping colleagues manage the demands of their roles and ultimately improving the quality of support delivered to young learners preparing for release.


Key Responsibilities



Support & Reflective Practice



Deliver immediate and follow-up debrief sessions after incidents or disclosures. Help colleagues process emotional responses, identify learning points and rebuild confidence. Facilitate regular one-to-one and group reflective practice sessions. Promote a culture of open communication, continuous learning and professional resilience.

Wellbeing & Emotional Support



Build trusted relationships to encourage early help-seeking. Offer wellbeing check-ins, drop-ins and tailored support plans. Provide flexible availability, including outside standard hours when required. Offer virtual support options for staff working differing shifts or locations.

Training & Prevention



Deliver wellbeing-focused training such as resilience, self-care, stress management and emotional regulation. Equip colleagues with practical strategies for maintaining their mental health and wellbeing.

Systems, Collaboration & Data



Implement a structured timetable for reflective practice sessions. Establish clear processes for incident debriefs and timely responses. Work with HR and management to identify wellbeing trends and offer data-informed recommendations. Maintain clear boundaries between wellbeing support and HR or disciplinary processes.

Safeguarding, Compliance & Professional Standards



Follow safeguarding processes including Recognition, Response, Reporting, Recording and Referral. Adhere to health & safety policies, risk management and confidentiality standards. Participate in relevant training and maintain high professional standards. Promote equality, diversity and inclusion across all aspects of the role.

Person Specification



Qualifications & Professional Background



Allied health qualification recognised by the relevant professional body, such as: + Occupational Therapist (HCPC) + Nurse (NMC)
+ Counsellor/Psychotherapist (BACP)
+ Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (BABCP)
+ Mental Health Nurse (NMC)
+ Clinical Psychologist/Behavioural Science (HCPC)
Degree-level qualification in social work, probation or similar field (desirable) Knowledge of the youth justice system and related legal frameworks (desirable)

Experience



Professional experience in your specialist field. Experience supporting young people in challenging environments, such as hostels, special schools or family support teams. Experience working with diverse communities. Experience with youth offending teams, mentoring or volunteer roles in justice settings (desirable). Understanding of and adherence to professional practice standards.

Skills & Attributes



Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and database use. Excellent written and verbal communication. Strong understanding of child development. Ability to empathise with the challenges of youth justice environments. Ability to train, coach and mentor colleagues. Strong organisation and ability to work across multiple teams. Understanding of emotional health and its impact on wellbeing. Flexibility and effective time management. Commitment to self-reflection and continuous professional development.
