Job Description

An exciting vacancy has arisen for a part time Health Care Assistant (HCA) to work 3 days per week (approximately 24 hours over Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,) but with flexibility to cover annual leave when required. You will have general practice experience including phlebotomy and NHS health checks
Salary: Dependent on experience.
Main duties of the job
To work alongside the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.
About us
We are a very friendly rural practice with a growing list size of approx. 5300. Our team comprises four GP's, one Advanced Nurse Practitioner, one Clinical Pharmacist, two Practice Nurses and a very supportive patient services team and 2 Practice Managers. We are also a dispensing practice. We also have access to Clinical Pharmacists, Personalised Care Team, First Contact Physio through our PCN.
We score very highly in our patient practice survey and have an excellent Patient Participation Group

Job description
Job responsibilities
This is not exhaustive, and the post holder may be required to undertake other duties from time to time consistent with the responsibility of this role. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.
This is subject to periodic review and development.
The following are the core responsibilities of this role:
a. Undertake new patient health checks
b. Support the nursing team with health promotion programmes
c. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
d. Undertake wound care, uncomplex dressings and other clinical tasks as required
e. Support the nursing team with the management of chronic disease clinics ( long term condition reviews).
f. Carry out BMI checks as directed
g. Act as a chaperone as required
h. Venepuncture
i. When trained, administer flu vaccinations and other immunisations such as B12 under the guidance of the Nursing Team
j. Carry out ECGs as requested
k. Ensure the correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
l. Provide support during minor operations as required ensuring consent received
m. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
n. Ensure fridge temperatures are recorded and cold chain policy adhered to
o. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
p. Maintaining accurate patient records on Systmone
q. Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
r. Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters
s. Removal of sutures and staples if competent to do so

u. Assist with Doppler investigations and taking stocking measurements - if competent to do so Job description
