Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and dynamic team. As an HCA, you will play a crucial role in supporting the clinical team and ensuring high quality patient care. Working under the guidance of nurses and GPs, you will assist with a variety of clinical and administrative tasks, contributing to health promotion, chronic disease management, and the delivery of routine clinical procedures.
Main duties of the job

  • Conduct new patient health checks, including monitoring vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature).
  • Perform ECGs, phlebotomy, urinalysis, diabetic foot checks and Doppler assessments.
  • Administer vaccinations (flu, B12, pneumonia).
  • Apply dressings and perform suture removal (if trained) and provide general wound care.
  • Assist with management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and COPD.
  • Perform ear syringing.
  • Provide support for patients in smoking cessation programs.
  • Ensure consulting rooms are prepared and appropriately stocked.
  • Support GPs during minor surgery and clinical interventions.
  • Follow strict infection control practices to maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Safely dispose of clinical waste as per safety regulations.
  • Monitor and manage the stock of medical supplies, vaccines and clinical equipment.
  • Record vaccine fridge temperatures and ensure cold chain compliance.
  • Assist with clinical audits for QOF and CQC compliance.
  • Promote patient education on health, lifestyle changes and disease prevention.
  • Provide chaperoning support as needed.
  • Assist with extended hours or out-of-hours services when required.
  • Contribute to team meetings and support colleagues and students.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by the practice.
