Health Care Support Worker - Band 3 - 24hrs pw
The Minor Injury Unit is a busy nurse led urgent care setting. If you are looking for a new challenge and have a passion for emergency care then look no further for your next job.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, compassionate and highly motivated person who works well under pressure to join our friendly team.
All training will be provided.
The Minor Injury Unit is open 08.00-22.00, the shift patterns are 07.30-20.00 and 10.00-22.30. Please only apply if you can meet the shift requirements.

Main duties of the job
Main duties of the role;
As a healthcare support worker on the unit you will

• Put patients first
• Work as part of a team with Emergency Nurse Practitioners
• Clerical duties
• Be part of quality improvement

Clinical learning;

• Wound Closure
• Applying plaster casts
• Dressings
• Completing NEWS2 and PEWS scores to identify the serious sick or injured person and follow escalation process's.
• Eye wash outs

Healthcare support workers are the glue with in the unit, supporting both qualified nurses with patient assessment and treatment and supporting the receptionist with some clerical duties. Team worker and good communication is a key element of all staff working on the unit to always deliver the best outcome for all patients, both adults and children.

Accountable to: Ward Manager
Reports to: Ward Manager/ Nurse in Charge
Key Working Relationships:
Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Healthcare support workers and receptionist.
Risk Assessment:

• Manual Handling of patients.
• Assist in any house keeping duties.
• Computer skills
• Basic life support.

Job Purpose: The post holder will:

• Behave consistently with the values and beliefs of the organisation, promoting these on a day to day basis.
• Act as a role model to colleagues, always seeking to maintain the highest standards of professionalism.
• Use their initiative and take responsibility for themselves and the quality of their work and the service they provide to patients.
• Provide safe and effective practice to patients.
• Ensure that all patient contact is practised within the philosophy of patient centred care.
• To deliver care under the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England.

Key Duties:

• Delivery of Individualised Nursing Care (under direction of senior staff)
• Undertake clinical procedures following assessment of competencies under direct supervision of Emergency Nurse Practitioners.
• Carry out delegated nursing care including observations of patients/clients
• Adhere to all trust policies and procedures
• Report and communicate effectively with other staff members, patients and relatives.
• Ensure confidentiality, dignity, privacy and respect for patients at all times
• Assist and participate in activities to meet occupational needs of patients.

Administrative:

• Provide reception and clerical support with in the Minor Injury Unit

General Duties:

• The Healthcare support workers role in The Minor Injury Unit is a combination of Reception / clerical responsibilities and delivering safe effective nursing care for all patients with in their competency range.
• Display a courteous attitude to patients, relatives, visitirs and other staff at all times.
• Liaise effectively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team as appropriate.
• Ensure that the Nurse in Charge or Ward manager is aware of any changes in the ward physical environment.
• Ensure that all communication is effective, clear and precise.
