Job Description
We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic
Herdsman
to join our modern and progressive200-cow flying herd
dairy farm. The farm is equipped with4 Lely A5 robotic milking units
and2 Lely robotic manure collectors
, with a focus ongrazing throughout the summer
andcalving spread over 9 months of the year
.Key Responsibilities:
Daily monitoring and care of a 200-cow herd
Herd health management
, including regular checks and proactive interventionsCalving cows
and providing care during the calving period PerformingAI (Artificial Insemination)
andbasic foot trimming
Monitoring and maintainingrobotic milking systems (Lely A5)
andLely collectors
Feeding calves
and supporting youngstock developmentFeeding cows
, managing feed efficiency and delivery Planning andmanaging rotational grazing
during the summerScraping yards
and assisting with general hygiene and cleanliness Sometractor driving
for daily operations and seasonal tasksThe Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Previous experience working with dairy cows, preferably with robotic systems Confidence with herd health, calving, AI, and foot trimming Good mechanical sense for basic robot maintenance Strong animal welfare ethos and attention to detail Ability to work independently and as part of a team Flexible, proactive, and motivated mindset Tractor driving experience and ability to work outdoors in all conditions
