spring-calving dairy unit

About the farm
We run a
New Zealand-style grazing system
that is designed to maximize milk production from grazed grass. Our approach is one that is simple, efficient, and focused on high animal welfare and productivity. Key features of the farm include:
1,200 crossbred cows
managed in a seasonal calving system
40-point herringbone and 50-point rotary parlour
Full-season grazing
on fodder beet in spring and autumn
Wintering strategy
- mix of cubicles and outwintering on beet
Dedicated youngstock farm
for heifer rearing
10-day fortnight work roster
to ensure a good work-life balance
The Role
As a
Herdsman
, you will work alongside our farm manager to oversee daily operations and lead the team. Key responsibilities include:
Grazing management
- Ensuring efficient grazing rotations and pasture utilisation
Milking leadership
- Overseeing parlour operations and maintaining high milk production standards
Stock health and performance
- Monitoring and optimising herd welfare
Team leadership
- Leading and developing staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
Technical skills
- AI and foot trimming (training available if needed)
What we're looking for
A
skilled stockman
with experience in grazing systems and seasonal dairying
Strong
leadership potential
, decision-making skills, and ability to manage a team
Knowledge of
milking, herd health, and farm maintenance
AI and foot-trimming experience (preferred but not essential)
