We are seeking a dedicated and proactive
Herdsperson
with a strong focus on cow health to join our progressive dairy team. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a large-scale dairy farming and processing business based near Glastonbury.
About the Business:
We operate a high-performing dairy enterprise milking 1,000 cows three times daily on a 60-point rotary parlour. Our facilities are purpose-built for optimal cow welfare and performance. Replacement heifers are raised at three dedicated youngstock units within a 3-mile radius of the main dairy. All forage for both milking and youngstock herds is home-grown by our dedicated forage team.
The Role:
This role is centred around cow health and fertility, working closely with the rest of the team to implement and maintain high standards of animal welfare and performance.
Key responsibilities include:
Daily involvement with cow health monitoring and mobility management
Supporting fertility and fresh cow programs
Providing first-aid cover for AI and foot trimming
Assisting with milking several times per week and covering shifts as needed
Collaborating with the milking team to implement best practices and protocols
Participating in and out-of-hours/on-call rota (routine night checks handled by the milking team)
The Person:
We are looking for a team-oriented individual who communicates effectively and thrives in a dynamic, hands-on environment. The ideal candidate will have:
A solid understanding of dairy cow health and welfare
Experience working with high-performance herds
AI certification and recent experience (preferred)
Skills or a strong interest in foot trimming and other herd management practices
A desire to grow professionally and contribute to team development
A full UK driving licence (essential)
This role may suit someone looking to refine their current skills or gain further experience in a large-scale, progressive operation.
