We are seeking a dedicated and proactive
Herdsperson
with a strong focus on cow health to join our progressive dairy team. This is a great opportunity to become part of a large-scale dairy farming and manufacturing business based near Glastonbury
About the Business:
We operate a high-performing flying herd, milking 800 cows three times daily on a 60-point rotary parlour. The herd are housed on sand bedded cubicles. The herd currently runs at a 45% conception rate and a 37% pregnancy rate. All forage is home-grown by our dedicated forage team.
The Role:
This role is centred around cow health and fertility, working closely with the rest of the team to implement and maintain high standards of animal welfare and performance. Routine jobs are shared between the team, allowing the opportunity to learn key aspects of herd management and husbandry.
Key responsibilities include:
Cow health and fertility management including AI and vet visits
Mobility management including providing foot trimming cover on a first aid basis
Assisting with the routine work including some milking and calf feeding
Participating in an out-of-hours/on-call rota (routine night checks handled by the milking team)
Using Uniform Agri & Dataflow software
Potential TMR feeding on a relief basis (dependant on candidate)
We are looking for a team-oriented individual who communicates effectively and thrives in a dynamic, hands-on environment. The ideal candidate will have:
A solid understanding of dairy cow health and welfare
Experience working with high-performance herds
AI certification and recent experience (preferred)
Skills or a strong interest in foot trimming (preferred)
Experience in milking and feeding calves
A desire to grow professionally and contribute to team development
A full UK driving licence (essential) and telehandler certificate (preferred)
This role may suit someone looking to refine their current skills or gain further experience in a large-scale, progressive operation.
