What You'll Be Doing
As an HGV Driver at McCulloch, you'll play a key role in our transport operations safely and efficiently delivering and collecting company goods, plant, and equipment across the UK (and occasionally Europe). You'll ensure every journey meets the highest standards of safety, compliance, and professionalism.
When driving duties are not required, you'll support general depot and yard operations, helping maintain smooth and efficient day-to-day running of our logistics activities.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Driving and Transport Operations
Drive Heavy Goods Vehicles safely and in full compliance with all driving regulations, including tachograph use, driver hours, and rest periods.
Plan and complete deliveries and collections from single-drop and multi-drop routes to long-haul journeys across the UK and Europe.
Monitor routes, traffic, and weather conditions, adapting as needed to ensure safe and timely delivery.
Vehicle Checks and Maintenance
Carry out thorough pre-journey, post-journey, and en-route vehicle checks using the company's online app.
Promptly report any vehicle defects, damage, or maintenance issues.
Keep vehicles clean, safe, and roadworthy at all times.
Load Security and Documentation
Safely load and unload goods, ensuring proper securing methods and equipment are used.
Accurately complete all paperwork and digital records, including delivery notes, driver logs, and timesheets.
Ensure all transport activities meet both company and legal compliance requirements.
Depot and Yard Support
Assist with general depot and yard tasks when not driving, including equipment organisation, loading/unloading, and maintaining a tidy work area.
Support operational efficiency across the transport team.
Compliance and Safety
Follow all company policies and procedures, including health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Uphold and contribute to the company's FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) accreditation.
Promote safe driving practices and a culture of compliance within the team.
Professional Conduct
Represent McCulloch in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and management.
Demonstrate reliability, integrity, and a strong commitment to excellent service.
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
Valid HGV Licence - Category C+E (Class 1).
Limited penalty points (maximum of 6 points).
Good knowledge of driver hours regulations and working-time rules for road transport.
Willingness to undertake long-haul work, including nights away, flexible hours, weekends, and overnight shifts across the UK and Europe.
Previous experience with low loaders and loading/offloading of plant and machinery. (Full training on company plant and vehicles will be provided).
Current Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.
Strong understanding of vehicle safety, load security, and compliance requirements.
Desirable Requirements
PTS (Personal Track Safety) Certification - desirable but not essential. Full rail industry and PTS training will be provided.
Experience working within a FORS-accredited operation.
Previous experience in rail, civil engineering, or construction logistics.
