Salary Based on Experience - Up to 38,000 OTE - Basic Salary plus bonus
Due to continued growth, we are looking for HGV Driver Trainers who can pass on their knowledge to the next generation of HGV Drivers. This is full time role however for the right candidate part time and freelance instructors will be considered. Shifts are Monday to Friday daytime with the occasional Saturday overtime by prior agreement.
While experience is an advantage the right attitude and temperament is essential to becoming a great instructor. For the right candidate full training and support will be provided.
At NEDs our Driver Trainers prepare candidates for licence acquisition of Categories C1, C and C+E. They will prepare their learners for passing all the DVSA tests and give them the skills and confidence to take. They also deliver both theory and practical training sessions, such as toolbox talks and driver CPC courses, as well as driving assessments for new and experienced drivers as required.
What makes a great HGV Trainer?
You must be innovative, able to manage change, adapt your training style to get the best out of the candidate, have excellent communication skills, be results driven and understand what makes a business or organisation successful. You must have a professional manner at all times and understand the importance of delivering the training to meet the standards required by the awarding bodies.
You should have a good understanding of the full Licence process for Large Goods Vehicles from initially obtaining your provisional licence (D2 and D4 forms)
You will understand what's needed to support your learners with their licence acquisition for Categories C1, C and C+E including the below.
Module 1A / B: theory and hazard perception module required for the multiple-choice test
Module 2: case study
Module 3A: off road exercises; Reverse and uncoupling
Module 3B: on road practical test
Module 4: practical vehicle check test
You should have a good understanding of Driver CPC courses and specific industry courses including vehicle specifics, manual handling, first aid, and health and safety.
You will need to have held a full category C+E vocational licence for at least 3 years to be eligible as an instructor. Full on the job training will be provided plus additional qualifications such as DVSA Assessor and NRI (National Register of LGV Instructors) qualifications will be provided for the right candidate.
Providing tuition to the candidates in the cab or classroom will take up the majority of your time however that is not your only role, every member of the team represents the business and as such can have a direct impact on the success of the company. Other day to day tasks will include keeping the vehicles in a fit and serviceable condition, taking vehicles to maintenance providers, moving plant and equipment and generally keeping the training sites maintained. Additional progression opportunities will be available including Forklift/Plant equipment instructor, DVSA Module 4 assessor, DVSA module 3a assessor.
