We are seeking a skilled and experienced HGV Mechanic to join our team. As an essential member of our workshop, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of vehicles, from large trucks to specialized equipment, while adhering to high standards of safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, inspect, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on HGVs.
- Perform routine maintenance
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections and road tests to identify faults and ensure roadworthiness.
- Use diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot vehicle issues and perform necessary repairs.
- Repair or replace faulty parts, components, or systems, including engines, transmissions, and braking systems.
- Ensure all repairs meet legal and safety standards in compliance with manufacturer guidelines and industry regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, services, and parts used on each vehicle.
- Communicate effectively with the workshop team, management, and customers regarding repair progress and any additional issues found.
- Assist with emergency repairs and breakdown services, as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to health and safety standards at all times.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as an HGV mechanic or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of HGV systems and components (engines, hydraulics, transmissions, etc.).
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and repair software for fault identification.
- A good understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Full UK driving licence (HGV licence preferred but not essential).
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair) are highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
