About the Role:




Are you organised, detail-oriented, and interested in a role within the justice system? As a High Court Noter with COPFS, you'll play a key role in supporting High Court trials across Scotland. Working closely with prosecutors, you'll ensure proceedings run smoothly by managing legal documentation, liaising with witnesses and victims, and capturing vital trial notes.


This is a dynamic, people-focused role where your professionalism and communication skills will help deliver justice with care and respect.

Job description




Our High Court Noters play a vital role within COPFS.

Working closely with our Advocate Deputes (Prosecutors),

you will assist in the preparation, co-ordination, and smooth

running of High Court trials.



You'll be based in courtrooms across Scotland, liaising

directly with witnesses, victims and court staff. Your work will

help ensure trials progress efficiently and that those involved

are treated with respect and care.



Key Responsibilities



o Take detailed notes during trials and capture key points

to assist the Advocate Depute

o Monitor the accuracy and quality of your work

throughout proceedings

o Communicate with victims and witnesses in person,

keeping them informed when they may be called to

give evidence

o Check and organise legal documentation, evidence

and witness statements before the trial begin. Ensure

all materials are present and accurate

o Provide general administrative support and operate

courtroom equipment. Record and manage the

movement of court papers and productions

o Liaise with Advocate Deputes and other legal staff to

share updates and resolve issues

o Travel to any of the High Court sites across Scotland

as needed

Person specification




Applicants suitable for this role may have experience working directly with the public, particularly in roles requiring empathy,

patience and clear communication. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, detail orientated and confident managing

administrative tasks such as document handling and data entry.



Any exposure to legal processes, courtrooms, or justice related work is desirable but not essential. Previous experience supporting

vulnerable individuals or managing sensitive situations would be beneficial and applicants should be comfortable using IT systems

and willing to travel to High Court locations across Scotland.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

demonstrate:



o Strong communication skills, able to convey information clearly and professionally to a wide range of people

o Excellent organisational skills, able to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively

o Attention to detail, particularly when handling sensitive information and maintaining accurate records

o IT proficiency, confidence using standard Microsoft office products and digital tools
