Job Description

As a team leader working with the Principal Occupational Therapist in planning, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating the Occupational Therapy Service provided to patients with complex neurological disorders.



Carry out advanced assessment, treatment, and management of patients with complex neurological disorders and to contribute the MDT assessment determining appropriateness for admission, and / or provision of recommendations to referrer.



To work as part of an inter-disciplinary team planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.



Jointly deputise in the absence of the Principal Occupational Therapist to coordinate day to day planning and to represent the department at relevant meetings both in and outside the Trust.



Lead audits and participate in research activities on the RHRU, which acts as a national focus for research and training.



Responsible for training/education and supervision of junior staff members, including participation in organising and teaching on courses taking place as part of the RHRU remit.



Carry a complex neuro caseload, with responsibility of key working up to 2 patients as per service needs require.



Condition management



Deliver clinically sound, evidence-based treatment approaches:

o Treatment and rehab of neurological Upper Limb - spasticity, splinting, Arm Programmes, Arm Group,



o PDOC assessment and management, including complex postural management etc.



o Cognitive assessment, rehabilitation



Be involved, and sometimes, as a key worker take the lead in complex discharge planning, including practical arrangements and meeting administrative deadlines. Family support / education Occupation focussed goal setting, conceptualisation and formulation

Service improvement / Research



Take active role to contribution to research base for profession and OT department on the RHRU Lead service improvement projects as agreed with clinical lead. Support Band 6's in planning, evaluation and audit of practice, and clinical pathways. Participate in unidisciplinary and multidisciplinary internal and external teaching and training Attendance at annual conferences and external courses

Undertake the supervision and appraisal of 2 x Specialist Occupational Therapist,
