Job Summary

The Highway Engineer will support the technical delivery of highway and public realm improvement projects, working primarily on detailed design tasks. The role involves preparing and developing design elements under the guidance of the Principal Engineer or Director, contributing to high-quality design outputs that meet project objectives for both Local Highway Authority and private developer clients.

The position offers flexibility for home working, but the successful candidate must be able to travel to London once or twice per week for meetings, site visits and team collaboration.

Salary:

38,000 - 42,000 depending on experience and capability, with clear scope for progression as responsibility increases.

Responsibilities

Prepare detailed highway and public realm design drawings considering horizontal and vertical alignment, levels and drainage using AutoDesk products. Maintain well-organised project records, CAD models, and technical documentation. Work collaboratively within a small team and follow project briefs prepared by the MD or Principal Engineer. Attend weekly team meetings and regular project meetings in London to support coordination and delivery. Contribute to continuous improvement of design standards and templates.

Experience

4 years' + experience in highway engineering design. Good working knowledge of alignment and level design using Civil 3D. Experience preparing design outputs (drawings, models, schedules) with limited supervision. Understanding of the design process within multi-disciplinary teams.

Skills and Qualifications

MEng or BEng in Engineering. Working towards Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng). Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Strong attention to detail and design accuracy. Working knowledge of national and local highway design guidance and CDM. Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively both remotely and in person.
