Westmorland and Furness Council, Highways and Transport service is looking for an experienced, motivated, and friendly individual to join us as Highway Network Engineer. We are excited to offer this excellent career opportunity for candidates with experience in highways, transportation and construction backgrounds looking to join a large and thriving organisation.

In this role, you will assist in leading the South Lakes Area Highways team; managing, preparing, designing and processing highway improvement and maintenance projects. This could include carrying out activities relating to surveys, design, specification, and data collection and input.



Who we are looking for...



We are looking for strong communicators, as you will provide technical advice and guidance to colleagues in respect of specifications and standards for highways design and maintenance. You will also provide advice on the application of legislation, regulation, policy and principles to both internal and external customers of the Council.



This role is a great opportunity for candidates who have significant experience of highway, transportation, or construction design, as well as a sound knowledge of local government and dealing with customers. Awareness of construction contracts, highway maintenance activities and national design standards is also essential. You will be able to work under pressure, be an effective team member and have plenty of experience of budgetary management and control.
