To inspect Category 1 defects raised by members of the public; define interventions in line with the Assess and Decide policy; build accurate jobs for the Operations Team to construct; and, provide responses to members of the public.
Duties
Carry out statutory safety inspections (Category 1) and asset condition inspections (Category 2)
Identify, assess and categorise highway defects in line with the Assess & Decide Policy
Build accurate work orders for operational delivery and ensure the right interventions are instructed
Provide timely and professional responses to public reports
Support Local Network Teams with intelligence for planned works, reporting and service development
Use tablet-based technology (CONFIRM) to record and process inspection data
Act as a "network watchman", proactively identifying issues before they escalate
Contribute to improving overall network condition and reducing reactive spend through early intervention
This is a hands-on, field-based role where you will spend most of your time on the highway network, playing a vital part in delivering statutory compliance and maintaining public safety.
Person Specification
Awareness of civil engineering / term maintenance contract operations
Strong understanding of Health & Safety responsibilities
Local knowledge of Hertfordshire districts
ONC / City & Guilds 6033 Highway Safety Inspection Award or similar accreditation (preferred)
NRSWA Supervisor accreditation (preferred)
Strong understanding of the Assess & Decide Policy and the Well-Maintained Highways Code of Practice (preferred)
Proven experience identifying and categorising Category 1 & 2 defects (preferred)
Ability to raise work orders in CONFIRM (preferred)
