The increasing levels of expansion and development citywide in Manchester with internal Highways Improvement Schemes, Utility Company Works and Telecommunications Work along with large scale projects such as the arrival of High Speed 2 (HS2) and Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) into Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport, represent a once-in-a-century opportunity for the city.

There are 2 posts, one for 5 days per week and the other for 2.5 days per week and will play a key role role in supporting the Traffic Manager and the Events & Network Specialists in the Events and Network Coordination Team. To do this, the postholder will liaise with all the aforementioned stakeholders in co-ordinating and assisting in the management of a full range of potentially complex activities.

This position is integral to the Traffic and Events Team and Network management overall as they have the responsibility for coordinating works which take place on the Manchester City Council network. It is a statutory requirement for Local Authorities to use a permitting system in order to manage movements and grant permissions on the highway in line with legislation. The Event and Network Coordination Team assess and approve any proposed works on the Manchester City Council Network via the Greater Manchester Road Activity Permit Scheme.

The team have overall responsibility for coordinating all activity taking place on the network from utility works, in house works , events, street parties and emergencies. The team work to promote Manchester as a place to live, work and visit; facilitating development and investment in the city centre, and encouraging businesses to relocate here, supporting the creation of new jobs, homes, infrastructure (including transport infrastructure) and facilities.

This role involves blended/hybrid working. You may be able to work from home or remotely some of the time, or for certain tasks or limited days or hours. For the remainder of the time, you will be required to work at council sites or offices. This will depend on your role\xe2\x80\x99s responsibilities and your personal circumstances. You will also have excellent I.T., written and verbal communication and influencing skills; a track record of building effective partnerships and working with senior managers and Elected Members; the ability to understand, assimilate and communicate complex information in a non-technical way; and be able to work well under pressure.
