Role Purpose:



Responsible for carrying out all aspects of Highway Maintenance works including routine and cyclical maintenance, minor civils, emergency attendance in and out of hours. Supporting additional activities such as Winter Maintenance in and out of hours.

What you'll be doing



Your Accountabilities will include:


Carrying out a broad range of Highway Maintenance activities safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Conduct all operational activities against the required quality standards. Ability to understand work programmes and responsible for delivering works to time. Evaluate job information and where issues arise work with peers to identify solutions. Carry out all reasonable work instructions usually issued via digital platforms. Support emergency service provision to make defects safe in line with contract expectations. Support winter maintenance activities to maintain a safe network for road users. Possible expectation for out of hours support to be given for both emergency

situations and winter maintenance.
Build strong working relationships with subcontractors and support external

contractors on site.
Always conduct yourself in line with the Balfour Beatty Behaviours when in the public domain. Support members of the public with enquiries when approached and be courteous at all times. Prioritise safety at all times for all, including members of the public.


Who we're looking for

Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience




Strong awareness of health and safety legislation, safe systems of work, and risk elimination/mitigation in a highways/construction environment Basic IT literacy, including the use of BIM, Confirm, and other construction management software/tools Full UK driving licence

Essential Qualifications (training provided where required)




NRSWA (New Roads & Street Works Act) - Operative or Supervisor units EUSR (Energy & Utility Skills Register) - SHEA Power or equivalent (EUSR1/EUSR2) Current First Aid at Work certificate Lantra T1/T2 (Temporary Traffic Management) Valid CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Abrasive Wheels certification Manual Handling training

Desirable Practical Experience





Experience in any of the following highways maintenance and minor civils activities:


Drainage works, concreting, kerbing and slabbing Asphalt laying and raking Pothole and patch repairs Installation of road signs, street furniture and poles Winter maintenance operations (gritting, snow clearance, etc.) Operation of plant (roller, dumper, telehandler, 180/360 excavators)

Desirable Qualifications & Tickets




Level 2 Award in Winter Service Operations Class 2 (Category C) HGV licence with Driver CPC Roller and/or Forward Tipping Dumper certificates Telescopic Handler (all sizes excluding 360 slew) 180 or 360 Excavator (above/below 10 tonne) Medium or High Risk Confined Spaces Deep Excavation Support / Temporary Works awareness
