Home Care Worker

Job Overview:

As a Home Care Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing essential care and support to individuals in their homes. Reporting to the Registered Manager or Supervisor, you will be responsible for assisting with personal care needs, promoting independence, and ensuring the well-being of clients. This position offers flexibility in shift patterns and requires a compassionate and dedicated individual to deliver high-quality care.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist clients with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and continence care.

2. Support individuals with mobility issues and physical disabilities, including the use of aids and equipment.

3. Provide compassionate care to clients

4. Promote mental, emotional, and physical well-being through engaging activities and companionship.

5. Perform household tasks including making beds, light housekeeping, and laundry assistance.

6. Maintain accurate records, attend meetings, and participate in training sessions as required.

7. Comply with all organisational policies, procedures, care plans, and medication administration protocols.

8. Monitor and report any changes in clients' health or circumstances promptly.

9. Encourage independence while offering necessary support to meet individual needs.

10. Attend mandatory training sessions for professional development and skill enhancement.

11. Assist clients in identifying and managing risks while respecting their autonomy. Also respect and value their home their space.

12. Collaborate with clients, families, and advocates to ensure personalised care plans are followed.

13. Engage in continuous learning to enhance practice standards and meet regulatory requirements.

14. Express genuine care and uphold dignity, respect, and professionalism in all interactions with clients

15. Ask for help and assistance as and when required

16. Identify and support appropriately service users with capacity and those who lack capacity.

17. Record appropriately all decisions which relate to service users who lack capacity.

18. Involve and consult with service users, their families, representatives or advocates to ensure that the service user's views are expressed and acted upon.

19. Attend reviews of care as appropriate.

20. Update and continually improve practice by a mutually agreed method which may include attendance at staff meetings, learning support briefings and one-to-one supervision.

21. Take responsibility in conjunction with line manager for identifying further learning.

22. Be aware of requirements regarding SSSC codes of practice and relevant codes of conduct where appropriate issued by professional bodies as well as willing to undertake a PVG Criminal Records Check

23. Understand Outcomes and Regulations as defined by the Essential Standards of Health and Safety issued by the Care Inspectorate and Scottish Government. The Standards of Health and Social Care are Dignity and Respect, Compassion, Be Included, Responsive Care and Support and Wellbeing.

24. To carry yourself with dignity and respect through positive practice as an ambassador for Glow Social Care

25. Promote good practice and be vigilant in recognising and reporting practice which does not meet the defined standards.

26. To assist and contribute constructively to any regulatory body inspection or monitoring visit.

Requirements:

Patience, Empathy, Compassion, Caring and Inclusion are a MUST

Previous experience in caregiving or related fields is preferred.

Knowledge of behaviour management techniques is advantageous.

Ability to provide patient-centred care with empathy and compassion.

Familiarity with nursing home procedures and practices is a plus.

First aid certification or willingness to obtain one.

Proficiency in meal preparation following dietary restrictions if needed, food hygiene.

Valid driver's license for transportation purposes may be required.

Experience in care work or medication administration is beneficial.

Nursing background or certification is a definite asset.
