The University of Brighton is looking for Hourly Paid Lecturer(s) to teach on BA(Hons) Graphic Design for the School of Art and Media.
We are looking for hourly paid lecturers to input specialist knowledge in contemporary graphic design or a closely related practice, with some prior teaching experience. We are particularly interested in expertise in creative coding, editorial design across platforms, information design and data visualisation, exhibition design, generative design, or user experience.
The role involves contributing to teaching, with opportunities to run workshops and develop sessions in collaboration with module leaders and the course leader. We welcome practitioners who can situate their work within wider cultural, technological, and professional contexts, and who can support students in developing their creative voice, skills, and engagement for the world they will graduate into.
The rate of pay is 61.48 per contact hour PAYE. This covers the time spent teaching and any associated preparation or assessment time. The maximum hours offered would be 50 over the course of the academic year.
Candidates should be prepared to:

• Deliver lectures, group seminars and tutorials, which will support students to write essays, deliver presentations and create a digital archive that connects to their studio practice and areas of enquiry
• Carry associated administrative tasks within an established programme of study
• Set and mark assignments, assess the work and progress of students and provide constructive feedback to students
• May co-ordinate small modules, in own subject area
• Attend and participate in module team meetings, liaising with colleagues as necessary
• Engage in the requisite scholarly activity that will maintain their familiarity with current developments in their academic field which is necessary for the preservation of their academic standing
• Reflect on practice and development of teaching and learning skills
• Continually update knowledge and understanding in field or specialism
• Understand equal opportunities in relation to academic content and issues relating to student need.

The successful candidate will have:
A post graduate qualification and/or extensive relevant professional experience in the discipline
Ability to work flexibly and collegiately with academic and administrative colleagues
Ability to devise teaching materials suitable for teaching undergraduate students
Knowledge of a variety of pedagogic approaches, relevant to higher education
A student-centred attitude including an appreciation of the diverse backgrounds of HE students and the academic and personal issues they typically encounter while at university
Good communication skills
Desirable
Qualification or other professional recognition in teaching
Previous experience of teaching and assessment
