About the role




We are currently recruiting for a fixed term Household Support Fund Officer to join our small, friendly locality-based team in Balsall Heath. This is a fixed term contract until early April 2026 with potential for extension.


Birmingham`s Household Support Fund is a hardship grant provided individual households as part of the government`s Cost of Living support package to eligible households in need. This role will support the co-ordination and accessible delivery of the grant across Hall Green and Selly Oak localities.


As the Household Support Fund Officer, you will:


Support the co-ordination and completion of Household Support Fund applications, both over the phone and at face-to-face sessions held in the community. Work with our community partners to identify opportunities for outreach, setting up and attending community advice and support sessions. Work with Trusted Partners in the community to process Household Support Fund grant services. Undertake Grant Fund communications and marketing, including helpline management. Link grant applicants with wider support through signposting and Family Connect Forms - liaising directly with the locality based Early Help teams.

About you




For this role, you will require a strong commitment to excellent Customer Service, good communication skills adaptable to a diverse client group, a commitment to integrity, supporting vulnerable individuals, and the ability to manage customer difficulties, both over the phone and face-to-face in community settings. You will need to be able to work independently, problem solve and manage your own workload priorities.


You will need to be able to easily and flexibly travel between our four Community Hubs and our numerous Trusted Partners across two localities. This will include having access to own transport.


This role may involve occasional weekend and evening work in the community.


You will have a good general or technical education beyond GCSE e.g. 2 or more A Levels/ NVQ3 or vocabulary, verbal reasoning, and numerical skills to the equivalent ability level as a minimum with additional relevant experience. You will have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, alongside digital and/or interactive social media.
