Job Title: Housekeeper
Reports to: Deputy Hospital Manager
Job Overview:
We are looking for a reliable and dedicated Housekeeper to join our team at Seren Gobaith Independent Hospital. The role will involve maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment throughout the hospital. As a Housekeeper, you will play a key role in supporting patient care by ensuring all areas of the hospital, including patient rooms, communal spaces, and staff areas, are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards, helping to promote a safe and therapeutic environment for both patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Cleaning & Hygiene:
Carry out daily cleaning tasks in patient rooms, communal areas, bathrooms, and staff areas, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
Ensure that all cleaning tasks are performed according to hospital policies and infection control guidelines, minimizing the risk of cross-contamination and the spread of infection.
Clean and sanitize all surfaces, including floors, windows, doors, and furniture, using appropriate cleaning agents and equipment.
Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in clinical areas, following protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of patients and staff.
Laundry & Linen Services:
Ensure the collection, laundering, and proper storage of linen, towels, and clothing for patients and staff.
Ensure laundry tasks are performed in accordance with infection control guidelines, using appropriate detergents and sanitizers.
Monitor the condition of linen and notify the appropriate staff of any damaged or unusable items.
Waste Management:
Assist with the proper disposal of waste, including clinical waste, general waste, and recycling, following health and safety guidelines.
Ensure that waste bins are emptied regularly and replaced with new liners, maintaining cleanliness and reducing the risk of contamination.
Stock Management:
Monitor stock levels of cleaning materials, toiletries, and other domestic supplies, reporting any shortages to your line manager.
Ensure all cleaning equipment and supplies are well-maintained and stored safely.
Health & Safety:
Follow all health and safety guidelines and infection control procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Report any hazards or maintenance issues (e.g., damaged equipment, faulty lighting) to the Facilities Manager.
Ensure all cleaning tools and equipment are used and maintained in a safe manner.
Patient and Staff Interaction:
Work sensitively and respectfully around patients, maintaining patient dignity and confidentiality.
Be mindful of the hospital environment and the needs of patients with mental health conditions, ensuring that the hospital is calm, supportive, and therapeutic.
Assist staff as needed with small tasks related to cleaning or maintaining a safe environment for patients.
Teamwork & Communication:
Collaborate with other housekeeping staff and hospital staff to ensure that cleaning tasks are completed on schedule and to the highest standards.
Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors, raising any issues or concerns promptly.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Essential:
Previous cleaning or domestic experience, preferably in a healthcare or similar environment.
Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques, health and safety, and infection control procedures.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A positive attitude and a strong work ethic, with an attention to detail.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff and patients, always maintaining professionalism.
Good physical stamina, as the role requires standing, bending, and lifting.
Desirable:
Experience working in a mental health or healthcare setting.
Basic knowledge of mental health conditions and how they may affect patients' needs in the hospital environment.
Knowledge of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.
Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
Working Hours:
Full-time shift patterns (including evenings, weekends, and holidays) to ensure 24-hour cleanliness and hygiene within the hospital. Working 5 out of 7 days.
