Brighton and Hove City Council are recruiting for experienced and enthusiastic tradespeople to join our Housing Repairs and Maintenance Team
Do you want to support the residents of the city with their glazing repairs and installs? Do you want to focus on your trade and not sourcing materials, writing quotes or chasing customers for payment? Do you have a full clean drivers licence? Do you have a City and Guilds or NVQ level 2 or equivalent in glazing?

About the role
You will carry out high-standard glazing repairs and refurbishment activities for our residents homes, delivering high customer service and meeting all safety, quality and cost control standards.
You will mainly be working in occupied properties within the Brighton and Hove area either on your own or in a small team. The key tasks will be:

• Measuring and Ordering Glass: Accurately measure spaces and order glass to fit windows, doors, partitions, and other structures.
• Installing Glass: Fit glass into window frames, doors, skylights, and other fixtures using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Removing and Replacing Damaged Glass: Safely remove broken or old glass and replace it with new panes, ensuring proper disposal of waste materials.
• Sealing and Weatherproofing: Apply sealants and putty to secure glass and ensure installations are watertight and weather-resistant.
• Working with Various Materials: Handle not only traditional glass but also plastic substitutes, laminates, and safety-treated glass.
• Using Tools and Equipment: Operate hand tools, power tools, and sometimes cranes with suction cups for large panes.
• Reading Technical Drawings: Interpret architectural plans and technical drawings to ensure accurate installation.
• Health and Safety Compliance: Follow health and safety regulations, including risk assessments and safe working practices, especially when working at heights or with hazardous materials.
• Maintenance and Repairs: Carry out routine maintenance and emergency repairs on council-owned properties such as schools, housing, and public buildings.
• Customer Interaction: Communicate with tenants, council staff, or contractors to coordinate access and explain work being carried out.

Our residents come from a variety of backgrounds and some are vulnerable so you will need to be comfortable interacting with a wide range of people.

• A defined working week of 37 hours per week plus 5.5 hours of contracted overtime (Monday Friday 08.00 17.00)

Additional information
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is term-time only. For part time applicants, where your working week is less than the councils basic 37 hour week, contracted overtime rated pay will not form part of your working hours. This is because overtime rated pay is payable for hours worked in excess of the councils basic 37 hour week. Your starting salary will be pro rata based on the basic annual salary elements of pay between 331,067 & 332,654.
