Job Description

Job description
Do you want to have a positive impact on the lives of rough sleepers in Sheffield?

Do you put the customer at the centre of what you do?

Do you have the resilience to thrive in a busy working environment?

If so, we would love you to apply for the post of Housing Solutions Officer in the Rough Sleeper team. The service is person centred, and outreach focused, taking our service to the street. You will work with a wide variety of agency partners including mental health services, homeless day centres, Likewise and Framework. We have a 2 permanent full-time positions available. 1 role will be a gender specific role to work with women experiencing homelessness.

The Role(s)

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a busy, exciting team that helps and supports some of the most vulnerable people in Sheffield. As a Housing Solutions officer in the rough sleeper team you will provide housing advice and assessments on the street at Howden House and in different outreach locations around the city to individuals who are currently or at risk of rough sleeping.

Our Housing Solutions Officers take homeless applications and work within a statutory framework in order to progress cases appropriately and in line with legal requirements. A key aspect of the role involves working with internal and external partners to assess circumstances and investigate cases, and to gain a thorough understanding of the holistic needs of the individual.

You would be working in a team with skilled and experienced officers, seniors and managers who would be on hand to support you. The Rough Sleeper team is proactive and use assertive outreach to engage and work with clients.

Who we are looking for

To be successful, you must be able to demonstrate a clear person-centred focus, with an ability to prioritise and organise your work. We need excellent communicators who work well on their own initiative but are also flexible team players. It is important to be resilient and hardworking, with a keenness to learn. You must have a dynamic attitude and take the initiative with your work. Many people we support in the Rough Sleeper team have experienced significant trauma at times in their lives and this can be reflected in their engagement with services. An ability to see and understand the whole picture and approach your work through a trauma-informed approach is therefore essential in this role.

You will be working in a team with skilled and experienced officers and managers who would be on hand to support you. In this role you will be expected to visit and actively engage people on the street or temporary accommodation, and homeless day centres.

We are committed to fairness and social justice and welcome applications from everyone. We value our diverse workforce and aim to work together to make the most of our differences and particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of using support services.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
