Job Description

Planning Officer
CPL have partnered with Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) to recruit for a Planning Officer (SO Grade) to join their team on a temporary contract, with possibility of extension.
Pay Rate - 18.45 per/hr
Location - DfI, Climate, Planning and Public Transport Group
Benefits - 37 days holiday per annum
Hours - 37 hours per week
Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the operation of the two-tier planning system through the processing and determination of regionally significant and called-in planning applications.
  • Preparation of evidence for tribunals and court.
  • Contributing to corporate and business planning for the Planning Group and setting targets for the business area.
  • Providing professional advice to staff, line managers, senior management, advisory bodies, public authorities and the Minister.
  • Engaging and building relationships with relevant stakeholders and other interested parties.
  • Representing the Department at meetings with Ministers, MLAs, etc.
  • Keep up to date with legislation, decisions and relevant information associated with planning.
Contributing to other key work areas as required.
Essential Experience/Qualifications
Have a minimum of a level 4 qualification in a planning related discipline (e.g. Town and Country Planning, Marine Planning, Geography or Environmental Science etc).
Be a Chartered or Student Member of Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or a Corporate Member of the Irish Planning Institute (IPI) or equivalent.
Desired Experience/Qualifications
Have 2 years post qualification experience gained within the last 10 years of working in the planning profession.
Relevant or Equivalent Qualifications
Applications will also be considered from applicants with relevant formal qualifications considered to be of an equivalent or higher standard to those stated.

If you believe your qualification is equivalent to the one required, the onus is on you to provide the panel with details of modules studied etc so that a well-informed decision can be made.
