Join us at the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) as a HR Advisor. This role offers you the chance to make a significant impact by delivering expert guidance across the full spectrum of HR services--including employee relations, pay and reward, resourcing, wellbeing, engagement, learning and development, performance management, and Diversity & Inclusion. You'll play a key role in shaping a responsive, future-fit HR function, supporting strategic initiatives, and empowering line managers and colleagues through enhanced self-service and agile HR practices.

Role Overview





The HR Advisor will report directly to HR Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for:

Key Responsibilities:





Provide expert advice and guidance on all employment queries and casework, ensuring statutory compliance and best practice. This includes (but is not limited to) flexible working, probation, sickness, capability/performance management, disciplinaries, and grievances. Ensure the provision of accurate, business-focused employee relations advisory services in line with our people policies. Coach and train managers to improve their competence and confidence in managing people-related cases, including delivering formal employee relations training sessions and workshops to colleagues at all levels, including onboarding, policy updates, and professional development. Develop and facilitate continuous professional development initiatives, supporting a culture of learning and growth. Apply evidence-based HR practice, using data and research to inform recommendations and decision-making. Work collaboratively with HR colleagues to produce and monitor casework metrics and key performance indicators, providing regular reports and updating the casework tracker. Keep accurate records and minutes of formal meetings. Advise management on employee relations and management issues, supporting managers to get the best out of their teams. Identify and implement improvements to existing policies and procedures. Continually develop personal knowledge and skills (both professionally and organisationally), including market/sector knowledge, people trends, HR best practice, and prevailing employment legislation.

Essential Criteria:



Proven track record of developing people initiatives and providing advice to line managers to meet business needs. Experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating employee relations related workshops or training sessions. Working knowledge of employment law and HR best practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to deliver engaging presentations, facilitate group sessions, and write clear reports and communications. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively. Trusted advisor, based on sound HR knowledge and experience of advising managers on HR/people matters. Ability to exercise sound judgement, anticipate issues, and use initiative to create innovative, business-focused solutions. Experience of providing frontline operational advisory services to internal customers. Ability to use Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, etc.). Commitment to the CIPD Code of Professional Conduct, acting with integrity, impartiality, and confidentiality at all times. Evidence of applying evidence-based HR practice in previous roles. Commitment to continuous professional development, both personally and within the wider HR team.

Desirable Criteria:

Chartered Member of the CIPD (or actively working towards). Evidence of ongoing professional development and engagement with the latest HR research and practice. Passion for championing a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence.

Flexible Working



At MaPS, we take pride in our flexible approach to work. As standard, we work on a hybrid basis with a minimum of 2 days in the office per week. Hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and our headquarters in Bedford will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business needs, but personal and other relevant circumstances will also be considered. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
