Job Description

Elysian is only 3 years old, but we're already winning awards & changing the game.

Elysian is a 'start-up' with a very strong belief in being yourself [and a massive dislike of the dystopian 'blocker', non-commercial, employee-only focussed reputation]. I'm about freedom, authenticity, and making businesses work better for owners -- no corporate / misogynist nonsense allowed.

Location:

Bedford Office / Remote

Contract Type:

6-12m FTC [with a perm PAYE goal]

Hours / Days:

20-24 per week [initially], flexible

Ideal Start:

Mid-November 2025

Hourly Rate:

15.50

Employment Type:

Freelance / Self-Employed

Benefits:

On-site gym, cafe & wellbeing centre, flexible working, parking

Reporting to:

Director / Founder

The Team:

Sarah - Based in Barcelona / Tom - Remote recruiter in collaboration

Personality & Experience:

You have client-facing experience (mandatory!). You'll be pragmatic, a persuader, detail-oriented, confident, and empathic. I need a calm, pro-active and steady hand that can juggle multiple HR balls without dropping them, all while maintaining that magical balance between professionalism and personality. If you problem-solve, use initiative and get sh*t done - apply!

Skills:

You're someone who can make decisions, and offer solutions, all while being mindful of risks (low to high, RAG-style!). You're not risk-averse, but you're also smart about it. You're methodical, time-driven, and responsive--clients come to us because we're always on the ball, prompt & ahead of the game. I need someone who has insane attention to detail, can be calm in chaos and basically take charge of their 'area'. If you enjoy creative thinking, have podcast and content/socials ideas & experience too - WINNING! I do need reminding of things, prepping pre-meetings etc too. Doing it all solo is too much now.

Flexibility:

I'm in the middle of a strategic growth & development phase. This means you'll need to be flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working in an environment where things might change. If that sounds scary, this isn't the gig for you. But if it sounds like freedom and excitement, then let's chat.

A good sense of humour:

I'm neurodiverse (which, let's be real, comes with its challenges, like quirky communication styles, 100 ideas an hour and forgetfulness). But I always prioritise responsiveness and client service. So, you'll need to be able to deal with / adapt when things get a little chaotic. If you've got a sense of humour and patience, you'll fit in just fine.

What You'll Be Doing:

Client Interaction & Relationship Building:

Be one of the 'faces' of Elysian for our clients. They'll want to meet you, and you'll be representing my business, so think of it as "Elysian, but with your own awesome spin."

You'll be doing site visits, holding their hands (metaphorically) through HR challenges, and keeping everything running smoothly internally.

HR Advice & Support:

You'll be offering a blend of guidance, handholding, formal letters, coaching-type help and general problem-solving. This includes investigations, D&G, performance issues and exits.

You'll be leading formal meetings, making sure clients feel supported and being the go-to initially for queries that come in. I am pushing a new WhatsApp service at present. Client check-ins monthly are a must, and not just email. I need you to be confident on the phone and have a good manner.

Business Administration:

My inbox, client/HR meetings, Basecamp (our client filing system), and keeping me on track with any new employment law updates (because, hello, brain fog). Instil systems, processes and assist with SOPs [standard operating procedures], templates and I want to hear your ideas - basically the best way to help run the business bottom up. This might sound less exciting, but trust me, your contributions here will keep things running smoothly and efficiently, allowing growth and ideally the opportunity to grow with me, become permanent and fulltime and progress. Timesheets, expenses & mileage are a priority task too.

Mentorship & Training (Optional):

If you're interested in growing a team with me, there's potential to help support and coach an apprentice, or help train others. You'd be a mentor (while still kicking butt as an Advisor).

What's in it for You:

Flexibility

: Work your hours from the office, from home or on-site with clients. Trust and honesty is the name of the game here, so long as you're responsive and get the work done then we are all happy. We like our freedom, and you should, too.

No corporate BS

: Say goodbye to that soul-sucking corporate environment. Elysian is different. We're about being real, transparent, and, well, not over-cautious.

Growth opportunity

: There's potential for this to become a full-time, permanent gig if things go well. Therefore, this could suit someone working permanently, part-time, a returner into work, an HR freelancer or a mix of the above. I'm also looking into hiring an apprentice. If you like the idea of taking ownership and running with it, this might be a blooming wonderful partnership.

Who this won't work for:

People who need constant supervision

-- I'm very hands-off, [sometimes too much], but I expect results and autonomy. Individuals who don't understand the current climate, economy, modern HR or the importance of always being in control of each client, their needs and how important prioritising is. Someone who doesn't take care and attention with their work/advice/outcome. I run a tight ship and have high expectations. I have built Elysian from scratch.

Who this will work for

Perhaps you've wanted to take the leap into your own business, but the time isn't right yet.

You may work as an employee part-time but aren't enjoying it and want your freedom.

A holder of a CIPD Level 5, wanting to put your stamp on a role, with flexibility and on your own terms.

HR Coordinator/Advisor experience of 2+ years is the ideal.

I envisage this role becoming permanent and PAYE, but to start with we need to feel our way together.
