Primary Purpose of the Role



The

HR Advisor

will provide proactive, hands-on HR support across a fast-paced food manufacturing site. The HR Advisor will partner with line managers to deliver effective employee relations, ensure compliance with employment law and food industry standards, and support HR initiatives that drive engagement, performance, and operational efficiency.

Key Areas of Responsibility and Standards of Performance



Advise managers on all ER matters including attendance, disciplinary, grievance, performance, and capability. Support or lead investigations, prepare documentation, and attend hearings as required. Promote fair, consistent application of policies across all shifts. Coordinate end-to-end recruitment for factory and operational roles, ensuring timely fulfilment of vacancies. Work with agencies to manage temporary labour requirements during peak periods. Oversee onboarding and right-to-work checks to meet audit and compliance standards. Maintain accurate HR records, contracts, and personnel files. Ensure compliance with UK employment law, GDPR, and food manufacturing standards (e.g., BRCGS). Produce reports on absence, turnover, labour planning, and HR KPIs. Support delivery of training programmes including induction, refresher training, and supervisory development. Coach managers on performance management and drive a culture of continuous improvement. Support engagement initiatives, recognition programmes, and internal communications. Participate in employee forums, surveys, and site improvement projects. Work alongside H&S teams to promote a safe working environment. Assist in managing occupational health referrals and return-to-work processes. Promote wellbeing initiatives suitable for a manufacturing shift workforce. Contribute to BRCGS, SMETA, and customer audits as required. Promote employee wellbeing and occupational health initiatives. Work collaboratively with the H&S team to support a safe working environment. Management of the site's food safety culture, to help prevent deviation in the process that impacts the safety, quality and legality of our products. Understand and adhere to Company policies and procedures which are relevant to both the site and the working environment. Any other duties as deemed reasonable by your line manager or senior management to assist with the operation of the business.

Person Specification



Qualifications



Experience in food manufacturing or another highly regulated industry.

CIPD Level 3 or Level 5 (or working towards).

Knowledge of BRCGS, retailer audits, or SMETA is an advantage.

Experience



Experience in a fast-paced HR environment (manufacturing/logistics/food preferred).

Strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice.

Confident handling disciplinary, grievance, and absence management cases.

Excellent communication skills and ability to influence line managers.

Comfortable working with shift-based hourly-paid workforces.

Strong administration and attention to detail.
