Job Summary


The HR Assistant supports the effective operation of the trust and works to uphold and promote its vision and values.

The HR Assistant contributes to the provision of a high-quality, competitive, commercially aware and cost-effective HR service across the Trust, contributing to the continuous improvement of people management policies and practices, which support the delivery of the Trust's strategic aims.

Acting in support of HR administration in the Cornwall Cluster at Callington Community College and wider parts of the Cluster, the post holder will assist with school, manager & employee queries, maintain and update employee records/documents and databases, and assist with the full range of HR administrative and payroll-related tasks.

The post holder will be supported to develop their own professional practice, acting as a first point of contact for enquiries, signposting managers to appropriate operational HR Policies and procedures and providing best practice and professional advice and support on a broad range of routine employee-related issues.

Responsibilities

Acting as the first point of contact for incoming HR enquiries.

Providing a first-line responses to routine HR queries via the telephone and email helpline, triaging enquiries, providing advice or signposting to policy and guidance, or escalating less routine or complex enquiries to the HR Advisor, Senior Cluster HR Administrator or the HR Operations team as appropriate.

Supporting the provision of a full HR administration service and acting as a point of contact for contractual and payroll queries from staff or managers within the Cluster.

Administering starters, leavers and contractual changes for all staff at Callington Community College and other identified schools within the Cluster in response to its development.

Administering recruitment and selection processes primarily at Callington Community College but for other settings as required. Supporting recruitment managers to develop job descriptions and suitable advertisements; assisting with campaign design; posting the listing on the recruitment platform; engaging shortlisting and interview panels; conducting pre-employment checks and populating the Single Central Record.

Assisting with statutory returns, such as the School Workforce Census and feeding into any centrally determined HR returns.

Managing the absence administration of staff primarily at Callington Community College, ensuring that line managers are provided with information and tools to fulfil their role and absence is managed effectively within the Cluster.

Maintaining and updating electronic/hard copy personnel records systems.

Supporting the administration of employee relations meetings and/or hearings and occasionally, where appropriate, take notes for circulation.

Participating in and/or assisting with Trust-wide projects and policy work as appropriate.

Disseminating information and best practice provided by the Trust to aid people management.

Ensuring that HR guidance and advice to stakeholders at all times reflects and reinforces employment law, good practice, customer care and the provision of a high-quality service.

Maintaining own continuing professional development, keeping up to date with legal and HR developments.

Promoting effective, open and honest working relationships with all colleagues, internal and external to the team and Trust, to promote an effective employee relations environment within the Trust.

Acting in such a way that, at all times, the health and well-being of children and vulnerable adults is safeguarded.

Be familiar with and actively promote the Safeguarding Policies of the Trust, completing all essential/mandatory training in this area.

Actively challenge and seek to eliminate any directly or indirectly discriminatory practices or behaviours.

Supporting the operational and strategic development of the Trust HR Service where appropriate by identifying opportunities for continuing improvement.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 26,824.00-29,540.00 per year

Expected hours: 37 per week
