The Role
We are looking for an experienced and proactive
HR Business Partner
to take ownership of all day-to-day HR and recruitment activity across the business. This is a hands-on role -- ideal for someone who enjoys variety and getting things done.
You'll handle everything from recruitment and onboarding through to employee relations, record keeping, and compliance. You'll work closely with managers across all depots, providing practical support, guidance, and ensuring that our people processes run efficiently and consistently and play a key role in ensuring our people feel supported and heard, fostering a positive, inclusive culture across all areas of the business.
Key Responsibilities
General HR Support
Act as the first point of contact for HR queries from employees and managers.
Prepare HR documentation including contracts, offer letters, and policy updates.
Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in line with GDPR.
Support with absence management, return-to-work meetings, and note-taking for employee relations meetings.
Ensure HR policies and procedures are applied consistently across all sites.
Recruitment & Onboarding
Manage the full recruitment process for all live vacancies across PQS.
Write and update job briefs and person specifications in collaboration with hiring managers.
Post roles to job boards, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms, ensuring adverts are well-branded and engaging.
Coordinate interviews, prepare offers, and manage onboarding and induction processes.
Work with our chosen recruitment partners to encourage great candidate attraction channels.
Build relationships with external partners such as colleges and training providers to support early talent initiatives and apprenticeships.
Employee Lifecycle & Development
Support probation reviews and employee progression and appraisal processes.
Maintain training and development records and help coordinate learning opportunities.
Assist with retention activities, engagement initiatives, and internal communications.
Compliance & Policy
Work alongside our legal partners to ensure that we are up to date with UK employment law and ensure company policies reflect current legislation.
Maintain and update the employee handbook and policy documents.
Ensure all processes meet legal and company compliance requirements.
What You'll Bring
Proven experience in an HR or HR/recruitment support role, ideally within construction, engineering or a similar environment.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Confident working independently and managing multiple priorities.
Sound understanding of HR processes and employment law basics.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR systems.
CIPD qualification (or working towards) preferred but not essential.
Experience supporting employee engagement and wellbeing initiatives
