This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional to take on a role that combines involvement in the strategic development of the organisation with the need to ensure operational functions and responsibilities are carried out highly effectively.

This role is suited to a 'hands on' HR leader, who will be responsible for driving forward our HR department and strategy, as well as the efficient and effective management of all areas of our people management activity - recruitment, induction, employee wellbeing, safeguarding, absence management, performance management and professional development.
We are looking for a strong HR generalist, ideally with experience in the education sector, who has a confident, solution focussed approach and is fully aligned with our schools' visions and values. You will report directly to the Head teacher and will be responsible for managing a small HR team.

Purpose of Post
To lead the organisation's HR function.
Specifically, responsible for effective, efficient, accurate and safe HR leadership and administration with particular emphasis upon safer recruitment, contractual changes, payroll, attendance management and day-to-day HR matters.

To provide senior executives, and those responsible for governance, with advice in relation to the organisation's HR responsibilities and rights
To lead and manage the organisation's HR functions so that they promote the organisation's vision, values and improvement priorities
To lead and manage relations with external providers of HR services
To lead and manage any HR services provided by the organisation to other organisations
To keep all assigned areas of responsibility under review in order to ensure that develop in line with organisational need and in response to emerging opportunities
Policies and procedures
To manage the organisation's suite of HR policies and procedures, and recommend appropriate amendments or updates
To ensure compliance with HR-related regulations
Staffing structures
In liaison with the School Business Manager, maintain management information designed to support effective, efficient, accurate and safe improvement planning and decision-making
In liaison with the Headteacher, keep staffing structures under review and, when necessary, make recommendations for change and development.
To determine the nature and timescale of new appointments
Safer recruitment
To manage a recruitment and selection process which complies with the current guidance around safer recruitment in KCSIE (Keeping Children Safe in Education)
To ensure the preparation of compliant job advertising materials
To ensure a compliant shortlisting process
To ensure that compliant pre-appointment and vetting checks are carried out
To oversee planning of the interview schedule
To conduct interviews as required.
To determine contractual details for the successful candidate and to check all contractual documents before issue
To arrange feedback to those who were not successful
Contractual changes and end of employment procedures
To keep track of, and implement, any contractual changes that have been determined by the Headteacher (e.g. salary changes, changes in hours)
To manage the termination of contracts for colleagues leaving
To conduct the EXIT questionnaire and interview process for colleagues leaving as required
To keep under review the reasons for colleagues leaving, and take action if it appears necessary
Wellbeing, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
To support the Headteacher in promoting a positive, productive and inclusive workplace environment that reflects the school's values and enables colleagues to thrive and flourish.
To coordinate liaison and consultative activities with professional associations and employee representative groups
To be a point of contact for any colleague wishing to raise HR matters
Attendance Management
To manage the school's Attendance Management Procedure in relation to all colleagues, teaching and support
To manage the absence request procedure for all colleagues: on-the-day absence and planned absence for all; holiday requests for relevant support colleagues.
To receive regular analyses of colleague absence to determine whether any absence triggers have been met
To conduct short-term and long-term absence meetings absence review meetings; liaising as appropriate with Cheshire East HR
To make referrals to the school's Occupational Health provider
To conduct return to work risk assessments as appropriate
To manage any reasonable adjustments required in order to support colleagues in returning to the workplace
Staff conduct
To support the Headteacher in ensuring that any complaint related to a member of staff is managed through the effective, efficient, accurate and safe application of policies and procedures
To oversee, as appropriate, investigations which are requested by the Headteacher under the school's disciplinary policy and procedure
To support and service any meetings or hearing arising from staff conduct policies (eg disciplinary, grievance, dignity at work, capability etc)
Line management responsibilities
To line manage the Personnel and Payroll team
Safeguarding, Health and Safety
To assist the organisation's Designated Safeguarding Lead and be specifically aware of and assist with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security, safeguarding and confidentiality issues relating to students
To ensure that all required pre-appointment and vetting checks are caried out for all new appointees
To ensure that the relevant vetting checks are carried out for all other adults on site (contractors, visitors, volunteers, etc)
To ensure that the Single Central Record is maintained in line with current KCSIE requirements
Contribute to the management of Health and Safety responsibilities across the organisation, liaising with external regulatory organisations and providing the Headteacher with advice and reports on developments
To conduct risk assessments for colleagues who are expectant mothers
Training and development
To co-ordinate and participate in the delivery of induction training for all new colleagues
Reporting
Provide the Headteacher with a weekly update on HR matters
Provide the Leadership Team with updates on HR matters as appropriate
Provide the Governing Board reports on HR matters in line with the agreed yearly meeting cycle and agenda schedule
Lead and manage the process of providing relevant government agencies with required HR information (eg. the DfE School Workforce Census; Gender Pay Gap Reporting)
