Role Purpose



The Health & Safety Advisor will play a pivotal role in supporting the organisation's commitment to maintaining and continually improving safe working environments across all operations. The role will involve advising on developing, and implementing health and safety management systems, policies, procedures, and associated documentation, while providing direct support across a range of sites nationwide.

This role requires a proactive and pragmatic professional with strong technical knowledge and practical application of health and safety principles, capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels to drive safety culture and compliance. The role involves frequent travel, the need for a personal vehicle, and extended periods away from home, as support is required at varying sites across the country.

Key Responsibilities



Management Systems & Documentation



Assist in the review, development, and implementation of health and safety management systems. Draft and update policies, procedures, forms, and templates to ensure legal compliance and alignment with best practice. Support the integration of systems and processes into operational teams.

Site Support & Engagement



Provide hands-on health and safety support across multiple locations nationwide. Conduct site visits to advise management and teams on risk management and safe working practices. Act as a trusted advisor to operational staff, supervisors, and management. Commit to significant travel and periods working away from home to meet business requirements.

Training, Mentoring & Awareness



Deliver general health and safety training, inductions, and awareness sessions tailored to varying site needs. Provide technical coaching and mentoring on Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) responsibilities, lifting operations, and other site-specific safety requirements. Support the development of competency frameworks for supervisors and managers, ensuring knowledge of critical risk areas. Champion continuous learning and the embedding of best practice across all operational teams.

Auditing, Inspections & Reporting



Conduct regular audits and inspections of sites, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement. Produce clear reports and recommendations, ensuring issues are followed up and closed out. Monitor compliance with legislation, internal policies, and external accreditations.

Collaboration & Leadership Support



Work closely with the Health & Safety Risk Management Lead to develop and deliver strategic initiatives. Support in investigations of incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, ensuring lessons learned are shared and embedded. Contribute to continuous improvement and promotion of a positive safety culture across the business.

Key Skills & Qualifications



NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) as a minimum. CSCS card (or equivalent recognised safety passport/qualification) valid for site access. Demonstrable understanding of Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) processes and responsibilities. Knowledge of lifting operations, LOLER requirements, and safe systems of work for lifting activities. Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a health and safety advisory role, preferably in a multi-site environment. Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements. Proven experience in conducting audits, inspections, and risk assessments. High level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and the ability to develop and manage digital forms, templates, and reports. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports and documentation. Full UK driving license and access to own car for business travel. Ability and willingness to travel extensively and spend significant time away from home.

Desirable



Diploma-level qualification (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent). Experience developing health and safety management systems to ISO 45001 standard. Training/teaching qualifications (e.g., IOSH Train the Trainer, PTLLS). Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis methodologies. Familiarity with specialist safety software, auditing platforms, or digital reporting tools.
