Job Description

Wharfedale Group, is a reputable and long-standing commercial decorating and flooring contractor known for delivering high-quality workmanship across a wide range of projects throughout the region.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality (HSEQ) Manager to ensure the highest standards of safety, compliance, environmental responsibility, and quality management across our painting, decorating and flooring operations.

The role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring robust systems that align with legal requirements and industry best practice.

Key Responsibilities



Legal Compliance, Quality & Documentation



Ensure full compliance with all relevant UK health, safety, environmental, and quality legislation and standards. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal requirements, industry standards, and best practice, advising of any changes. Prepare, review, and update risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and phase plans. Develop, implement, and maintain company HSEQ policies, procedures, and quality control processes. Ensure all painting and decorating works meet required quality standards and client specifications.

Monitoring, Inspection & Reporting



Conduct regular audits of HSEQ documentation, quality records, and site files to ensure compliance and consistency. Carry out site visits to inspect safety practices, environmental controls, and workmanship quality. Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and quality issues; produce reports and implement corrective actions. Monitor and measure quality performance through inspections, testing, and feedback analysis.

Training & Development



Identify training needs and arrange relevant HSEQ training for employees and subcontractors. Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, quality briefings, and refresher sessions as required. Promote a positive safety and quality culture throughout the company and on all project sites.

Project & Planning Support



Support project teams in developing and implementing phase plans, safe systems of work, and quality inspection plans. Advise on the safe and high-quality use of paints, coatings, and associated materials, including COSHH compliance. Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies on HSEQ matters.

Skills & Experience Required



NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) - NEBOSH Construction Certificate desirable. Relevant qualification or experience in quality management (e.g., ISO 9001 awareness or auditor training). Proven experience as an HSEQ Manager or similar role within the construction, painting, or decorating sector. Strong understanding of UK HSEQ legislation and quality assurance processes. Experience producing RAMS, construction phase plans, and quality inspection records. Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability. Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and promote safe, high-quality working practices. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.

Competitive salary starting from 42,000 Full time role but with potential to be part time if required Healthcare 30 days of annual leave plus bank holidays
