Hull SENDIASS (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service) offers free, confidential, and impartial advice based on current legislation. We support families with children and young people aged 0-25 who have SEND and live in Hull, covering matters related to education, health, and social care.


Our goal is to empower families and young people to understand their rights, make informed decisions, and effectively advocate for themselves or their children.


Volunteer Role Overview:




Position:

SENDIASS Volunteer

Main Duties (flexible, based on interests and experience):




1.

General Administrative Support




Updating service databases using internal systems Sending routine information emails to support service delivery Ensuring personal data is filed safely and securely Monitoring and recording service contacts (calls, emails, voicemails, social media)

2.

Telephone Advice Line




Handling confidential information appropriately Gathering essential details during initial enquiries Offering information, advice, and support when needed

3.

Face-to-Face Consultations




Assisting parents and young people with understanding and completing SEND-related paperwork

4.

Targeted Support




Helping individuals understand and assert their rights in specific situations Supporting them to participate in meetings such as EHCP annual reviews or school discussions

5.

Training & Public Engagement




Assisting at training sessions for parents or professionals Attending community events (e.g. school SEND coffee mornings) to promote the service and offer guidance

Desired Skills & Qualities:




(These are helpful but not essential - training and support will be provided.)


Experience supporting families of disabled children or young people Strong communication skills and confidence in engaging with others Proficiency in IT, particularly using Outlook, Excel, Word, and internal database systems Excellent interpersonal skills A positive, proactive attitude when helping service users * Ability to travel independently to meetings and events
