We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager to join our team at GMSL. Working collaboratively with our management team the HR Manager is responsible for providing a full cycle HR service, covering a generalist HR remit.

Human Resources (HR) Manager





The HR Manager role is responsible for providing a proactive and professional full cycle HR service at GMSL. Reporting to the CEO and having responsibility for the line management of the HR Advisor, the role provides the opportunity to work with a range of colleagues across our IT, Operations and Commercial function teams.



In addition to the operational responsibilities of the role, including recruitment, employee relations, policy and process development and HR administration, the HR Manager has opportunities to collaborate with Fluxys International HR team on new projects and initiatives.

The responsibilities of the role include:



HR Policies and Procedures



Develop and implement HR policies, procedures and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy. Oversee all GMSL HR policies and procedures and ensure that they are current, fit for purpose and are compliant with current UK employment law and best practice. Collaborate with GMSL Information Security team, Fluxys HR and other colleagues to ensure that HR policies and processes comply with shared responsibilities.

Recruitment, Selection and On-boarding



Support recruiting managers in identifying their team recruitment needs, writing job descriptions, advertising roles, coordinating interviews and making offers of employment. Provide advice and input to ensure recruitment activity is effective and GMSL remain an employer of choice within the local market. Coordinate new starter administration, on-boarding and probationary period management. Participate in local recruitment peer learning groups.

Employee Relations



Conduct monthly meetings with Department Managers to ensure any employee relations cases are identified and managed proactively, professionally and in accordance with UK employment law and best practice guidelines. Proactively identify and address performance and absence concerns across GMSL and provide appropriate support and guidance for effective resolution. Ensure line managers receive required professional input and future training to support the responsibilities they hold.

Compensation and Benefits



Oversee the GMSL annual salary and bonus review process. Support the Finance team with input into GMSL monthly payroll, ensuring information is accurate and provided to meet payroll deadlines. Oversee and manage the administration of GMSL staff benefits, including private healthcare and EAP provision.

HR Administration, HRIS System and Records Management



Oversee all HR documentation and administration ensuring pre-employment checks are completed and records are kept securely and up to date. Ensure HRIS systems are kept up to date and share relevant HR metrics with management. Maintain all employment records in accordance with retention policy and data protection requirements.

HR Projects



Attend weekly and quarterly management meetings and provide HR updates. Lead initiatives for employee engagement, diversity and inclusion and wellbeing.

Person Specification:



Essential Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications



Proven experience as a HR Manager (or equivalent), ideally within the private sector. An undergraduate degree in Human Resources Management (or related subject). Full (or part) CIPD qualified, or equivalent experience. Strong understanding of HR best practice and UK employment law, based on relevant experience within the workplace. Strong problem solving and mediation skills. Familiarity with HR systems and analytics.

Able to act as an advocate for HR and people best practice. Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate concisely and with clarity both in person and virtually. Confident and self-assured to make informed and considered decisions and execute them. Interested in investigating new technologies and learning about new sectors. Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to prioritise and manage own workload. Able to build effective, collaborative working relationships with colleagues at all levels. Reliable, with an understanding of confidentiality requirements. Able to act as a professional representative of GMSL at all times.

Hours and location





The HR Manager role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday) and located at our Cambridge office, which is centrally located in the Hills Road, CB2 area. The GMSL office is within walking distance of Cambridge train station and the city centre, and we have bike and car parking available.



Due to the collaborative responsibilities of the role, there is a requirement for 80% of working time to be spent working from the office.

Salary and benefits





The salary for this role will be in the region of 55,000 to 65,000pa, depending on experience.
