Aquatic Engineering & Construction; part of Acteon Group, is a global leader in laying and retrieving flexible and semi rigid products from the seabed in support of the renewables, oil and gas and telecommunications markets. The company has proven ability in shallow / deep water, and extensive experience of off and onshore installations, transpooling, recovery and decommissioning.

Aquatic are recruiting for a Hydraulics Engineer to join the team on a full time, permanent basis.

The successful candidate will be is the main technical authority for hydraulic systems within the business and will be the main focal point for the design, upgrade and build design of our equipment to best practice and latest standards with safety as the priority. The role also requires the liaison with all stakeholders within the business to ensure client needs are addressed, our equipment is free of obsolescence and maintenance needs and improvements are addressed through planning and costing.

Our ideal candidate will be based in either Bridge of Don, Aberdeen or South View Place, Peterhead with some travel between sites. Aquatic also offer hybrid working.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Company Technical Authority for Hydraulics
  • Control aspects of hydraulic systems and equipment operational philosophy; design development, testing and certification, documentation standards and approach
  • Drive a solutions approach to Client equipment requirements and equipment innovation
  • Design, test and commission of new equipment and upgrade of current assets
  • Integrate functional improvements to equipment and subsequent designs, to negotiate issues that arise during work programs and ensure all drawing / build issues are captured through e engineering management of change
  • Manage rebuilds or refurbishments and upgrades of equipment and the process required to ensure integration to procedures
  • Drive Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements for Aquatic people, equipment and processes. Ensure, by example and supervision, that HSEQ principles required by legislation, standard, recommendation and operational requirement are fulfilled
  • Adhere to the requirements of the Aquatic Integrated Management System in undertaking duties, ensuring suppliers employ similar standards. In particular, develop risk assessment and controls necessary to ensure the equipment complies with all legislation and regulation and is safe to use
  • Together with finance team, ensure financial planning and control is fully utilised and deliver all works in compliance with budget
  • Be familiar with all of the Aquatic equipment range and fully understand functionalities. Determine and develop operation and capability of machines and support equipment and safeguard industry leading functionality
  • Provide the Aquatic team with equipment related standards and processes including maintenance standards, incorporating preventative programmes, analysis of maintenance requirements and programmes to maximise utility, testing - FAT, SIT, commissioning, accreditation and rework, documentation - operational, maintenance, set up and material certification and support
  • Support the Aquatic team in meeting all project requirements including equipment set up criteria, equipment modifications (improvement in fit, form and function), mobilisation dates, fault finding processes, procedures and capability, documentation for operational specific requirements, building of equipment
  • Responsible for the leading, developing and managing of direct reports
  • Competence with engineering and other software tools applicable to this role
Requirements
  • Qualified to Degree/HNC/D level in a relevant Engineering subject or sufficient further education and experience which will support success in the role
  • Industrial or Mobile Hydraulics experience
  • Advanced Hydraulics Courses including design
  • Full understanding of PUWER and LOLER
  • Design methodologies, project management capabilities and technical authorship
  • Good understanding of hydraulics and mechanics
  • Competency in engineering design
  • Competency in mathematical modelling
  • Familiarity with normal office software packages
  • Sufficient exposure in a hydraulic type industry to demonstrate competence
  • Professional Membership of a recognised engineering institution and/or the ability to satisfy the requirements for engineering council membership are desirable
