Job description
Do you enjoy the outdoors, have a keen eye for detail, and a passion for the environment?
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Brampton/Ely based Hydrometry & Telemetry Team as a Hydrometric Officer.
This is a dynamic role that combines fieldwork with office-based responsibilities. You'll be working outdoors throughout the year--including in challenging weather conditions--so resilience and adaptability are key. Operating across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, and parts of Norfolk, you'll be responsible for collecting, validating, and delivering high-quality scientific data on rainfall, river flows and levels, and groundwater. This vital information supports both internal teams and external stakeholders in making informed environmental decisions.
You will be responsible for:
Ensuring our Hydrometric Network is robust, resilient, and incident ready
Making necessary improvements and alterations
Adapting the network to meet evolving operational and environmental demands
Undertaking fieldwork and traveling to local offices and national meetings as required
This is a hybrid role, combining home and office work with travel to remote sites across Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire using a badged fleet vehicle.
You will also be expected to develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues in Water Resources, Flood & Coastal Risk Management, and other key stakeholders to ensure a full understanding of their needs and operations.
In East Anglia we want to create a diverse workplace where people are respected, valued and listened to. We're all different, and by embracing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) we can become an equal opportunity employer where jointly we all grow and learn together.

Experience/skills required
Essential:
Proven fieldwork experience, ideally within a hydrometric background
Familiarity with remote communication technologies
